About the Role

~1 min read

We’re seeking a Schooling Optimization Analyst to help optimize the core processes that run our schools — how roughly 22,000 students are placed into the right classes across more than 60 schools, how schedules are built, and how school operations are configured for the year. This position is part of our Schooling Decision Science capability, which develops models that optimize key schooling design elements and operations — including staffing models, educator assignments, school master schedules, and adult and student rostering. The initial focus of this role is rostering: executing the optimization cycle, ensuring its data integrity, and extending its automation. It is a full-year role — the start-of-year build is the peak, and the rest of the year is auditing, measurement, and improving the models and process for the next cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Optimization model design and build: Support the design and build of optimization models for schooling processes — including but not limited to rostering — that improve how students, educators, and time are allocated.

  • Optimization execution and audit: Execute optimizations through the network’s systems and audit the results to ensure school-specific considerations are appropriately implemented and outcomes are compliant by design.

  • Automation and process improvement: Identify steps still performed manually and extend automation each cycle, measured in manual hours removed and errors prevented.

  • Data integrity: Own the accuracy of the data the optimizations depend on; audit continuously and resolve issues before they reach schools.

  • Measurement and reporting: Produce status, exception, and outcome reporting that tells school and network leaders what is done, what is off, and what needs a decision.

  • External compliance: Complete required state and district reporting, accurately and on time.

  • Cross-team collaboration: Work with school leaders and network teams so inputs arrive on time and changes flow through one standardized process.

Requirements

~1 min read
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in data, analytics, or operations, ideally within an academic environment.

  • Strong data skills — comfortable manipulating, auditing, and reconciling large datasets (advanced Excel required; SQL or another scripting language a plus; student information system experience helpful).

  • A track record of automating or streamlining a manual process — you can point to something specific you made faster or more accurate.

  • Experience working with decentralized teams within a matrixed organization.

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.

  • Sees a manual, repetitive process and instinctively asks how to model, optimize, or automate it.

  • Incredibly high standards and meticulous attention to detail — a wrong roster puts a student in the wrong classroom.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with comfort turning operational rules into models and logic.

  • Ability to independently own a recurring, deadline-driven process — the school year does not wait.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across teams.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

  • A passion for education reform and school choice.

Exact compensation may vary based on skills and experience. This position is not bonus eligible.
