Mission Applications Deputy Group Lead

The Mission Applications (MA) Group within the AC2 Division creates outsized mission impact with our customers through specialized application and deployment of STR technology. Staff within the MA group have a deep understanding of missions and technology needs for national security with skills targeting transition of technology to operational use, including product management, UX Product implementation, software integration & mission engineering, platform engineering, DevOps, and program management. MA staff combine with other science and engineering staff from the various STR research and development groups to form dedicated product teams focused on accelerating the operational transition of cutting-edge software technologies.
We are seeking a Deputy Group Lead to support the Group’s leadership in managing operations, shaping strategy, and maintaining excellence across the portfolio. This role combines product expertise, program oversight, financial management, and team development. The ideal candidate brings experience across several of the following areas: product management, project and program leadership, business development, and deep mission expertise.
You will work closely with the Group Lead to drive the MA team to success through the various aspects of managing a high performing team. Specifically, in this role, you will:
- Lead business development efforts, cultivate customer relationships, and contribute to proposal and marketing activities
- Support the financial management of a complex, interdependent portfolio of contracts and customers to ensure accurate billing for shared components across the portfolio.
- Oversee program execution to ensure high-quality products are delivered to our customers, including reviews, briefings, profit management, and financial performance
- Assist in refining and executing the Group’s strategic plan
- Recruit, hire, develop, and mentor team members
- Conduct regular 1:1 meetings, provide performance feedback, and approve internal indirect budgets
- Collaborate with internal partners including Contracts, Finance, HR, IT, Facilities, and Security in addition to KEDS for their technical staff supporting MA owned programs
This role will take advantage of STR’s flexible, hybrid environment – when the work does not require use of STR’s or the customer’s facilities, you are welcome to work remotely.
- Active Secret or TS/SCI clearance, with the ability to obtain TS/SCI and SAP program access
- Minimum of 10 years of experience working within the Department of Defense (DoD), preferably in Joint mission planning and execution domains.
- Deep familiarity with DoD missions and concepts of operations (CONOPs)
- Proven experience leading and managing complex, advanced R&D and/or systems development/integration projects in Defense contexts
- Track record of success in technical execution, business development, product management, and/or program management
- Ability to work and collaborate in a fast-paced, mission-oriented environment to enable successful project execution
- Strong demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with customers, collaborators and partners
- Effective communicator to both technical and non-technical audiences, with strong mentoring and team-building skills
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: 240,000.00 to $275,000.00
The salary range listed is based on external market data. Offers are based on factors, such as but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, education, training, key skills/critical skills, security clearances, and prevailing market and business conditions.
