Target Housing is a charity dedicated to making a difference to the lives of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in society. Over the past 30 years we have shown that stable accommodation and support can help transform lives and empower people to achieve independence.

Mental Health Support Workers at Target support people in their own homes and in their community.

You may work with lots of different people who live with multiple disadvantages. People in receipt of support often have ASD, a learning disability, physical disabilities, may use substances and have committed offences alongside a mental health condition.

Responsibilities:

  • Encouraging people to develop person centered support plans, tailored to their individual wishes and aspirations
  • Supporting people with social and physical activities as well as basics such as meal preparation and prompting to maintain self-esteem and dignity
  • Helping people to get ready on a morning, go to work or University, do household tasks such as cleaning and cooking, budgeting, do social activities
  • Monitoring individuals’ health and helping them to manage their medications, working proactively with supporting services such as the community mental health teams, likewise and probation to ensure a multi disciplinary approach
  • Assisting people to attend appointments and support them to receive effective care and support

Skills and Experience:

Your induction will include necessary training such as health and safety, first aid, medications and moving and handling. We also offer additional specific training around autism awareness, communication skills and working with people who have experienced trauma.

Good English and number skills such as GCSE in English and maths along with a social care qualification are beneficial but are not a barrier and we can support you to achieve these during your employment.

It is useful to have experience working in a similar role or with vulnerable adults either through a work placement, from your personal life, through volunteering or as part of a traineeship or apprenticeship.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A valid UK driving license and access to own vehicle. Business insurance will be required.
  • Enhanced DBS Check.
