ABOUT CHILDFUND PNG
ChildFund Papua New Guinea (CFPNG) is a child-focused development organisation committed to helping children and young people thrive. Working in partnership with communities, government, civil society organisations, and development partners, CFPNG delivers programs in child protection, education, health, resilience, climate adaptation, social accountability, and youth development.
CFPNG also manages the national 1-Tok Kaunselin Helpim Lain, a free and confidential 24/7 counselling, information, and referral service providing support to children, young people, families, and communities across Papua New Guinea.
POSITION PURPOSE
The Communications and Digital Engagement Officer is responsible for leading ChildFund PNG’s communications, branding, media engagement, digital presence, and organisational profiling. The role will strengthen the visibility, credibility, and reputation of ChildFund PNG and the 1-Tok Kaunselin Helpim Lain by effectively communicating program achievements, impact, lessons learned, advocacy messages, and donor contributions.
The position will manage CFPNG and Helpline social media platforms, develop compelling communication products, document program impact, coordinate media engagement, support fundraising and advocacy initiatives, and ensure compliance with donor visibility requirements.
The role will work across all program areas to ensure ChildFund PNG’s work and impact are effectively showcased to communities, partners, donors, government stakeholders, and the public.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Strategic Communications and Branding
- Develop and implement ChildFund PNG’s communications and digital engagement strategy.
- Develop annual communication plans aligned with organisational priorities and program objectives.
- Strengthen ChildFund PNG’s public profile and organisational visibility.
- Ensure consistent messaging, branding, and visual identity across all communication products and platforms.
- Promote ChildFund’s mission, values, programs, and impact through strategic communication initiatives.
- Ensure all communication activities align with ChildFund policies, safeguarding requirements, and ethical communication standards.
2. Organisational Profiling and Storytelling
- Lead the profiling and promotion of ChildFund PNG’s programs, achievements, partnerships, innovations, and impact.
- Develop high-quality human-interest stories, case studies, beneficiary stories, success stories, and impact narratives.
- Capture and document program achievements through written stories, photography, video, and multimedia content.
- Work with program teams to identify and document evidence of change, lessons learned, and best practices.
- Support the development of annual reports, board reports, donor reports, program publications, and organisational briefs.
- Ensure children’s voices, community perspectives, and program outcomes are appropriately represented.
3. Social Media and Digital Engagement
- Manage and maintain all ChildFund PNG and 1-Tok Kaunselin Helpim Lain social media platforms.
- Develop and implement social media strategies to increase audience reach, engagement, and awareness.
- Create and manage content calendars across all platforms.
- Produce engaging content including graphics, videos, reels, animations, infographics, photography, and written content.
- Monitor social media trends and identify opportunities to strengthen engagement and visibility.
- Respond appropriately to public inquiries and online engagement in accordance with organisational protocols.
- Monitor and analyse social media performance and prepare monthly analytics reports.
- Maintain and update digital communication channels and online content.
4. Helpline Communications and Awareness
- Lead communication and awareness activities for the 1-Tok Kaunselin Helpim Lain.
- Develop public awareness campaigns promoting counselling services, child protection, mental health, gender-based violence prevention, online safety, and help-seeking behaviour.
- Produce awareness materials including posters, brochures, radio messages, videos, digital content, and community information resources.
- Support national campaigns and commemorative events related to child protection, mental health, online safety, and violence prevention.
- Ensure Helpline communication activities comply with donor and partner visibility requirements.
5. Program Communications
- Support program teams to document project achievements and results.
- Develop communication materials highlighting program outcomes, partnerships, and community impact.
- Coordinate field visits to collect stories, photographs, videos, and program evidence.
- Assist program teams to communicate technical information in clear and accessible formats.
- Ensure communication support is available for project launches, workshops, training activities, donor visits, and community events.
6. Media and Public Relations
- Build and maintain positive relationships with media organisations and journalists.
- Draft media releases, media statements, speeches, key messages, talking points, and briefing notes.
- Coordinate media coverage for ChildFund PNG events and program activities.
- Support senior management during media engagements and public events.
- Monitor media coverage and identify opportunities to raise awareness of issues affecting children and communities.
7. Donor Visibility and Stakeholder Engagement
- Ensure compliance with donor communication and visibility requirements.
- Develop communication products that acknowledge and profile donor contributions and partnerships.
- Support communication and visibility activities for donor-funded programs.
- Produce stakeholder updates, partnership profiles, and communication materials for government, donors, and partners.
- Support fundraising, advocacy, and resource mobilisation initiatives through strategic communication activities.
8. Internal Communications
- Strengthen internal communication and staff engagement across the organisation.
- Prepare internal newsletters, announcements, staff updates, and communication materials.
- Promote organisational learning, achievements, and ChildFund values internally.
- Support leadership communication and organisational change initiatives.
9. Knowledge Management and Documentation
- Maintain an organised repository of communication products, photographs, videos, publications, and media materials.
- Support organisational knowledge management and learning initiatives.
- Develop and maintain communication asset libraries.
- Ensure communication materials are appropriately archived and accessible.
CHILD SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES
- Comply with ChildFund’s Child Safeguarding Policy, Code of Conduct, and all related procedures.
- Ensure all communication products protect the dignity, privacy, and rights of children and vulnerable adults.
- Obtain appropriate informed consent for all stories, photographs, videos, and testimonials.
- Report safeguarding concerns immediately through established reporting mechanisms.
- Promote safeguarding principles in all communication and public engagement activities.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media, Marketing, International Development, or a related field.
Essential Experience
- Minimum five years’ experience in communications, media, public relations, digital engagement, or development communications.
- Experience managing social media platforms and digital campaigns.
- Experience producing high-quality communication materials and publications.
- Experience developing stories, case studies, and impact documentation.
- Experience coordinating media engagement and public awareness campaigns.
- Experience working with NGOs, development partners, government agencies, or donor-funded programs.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong storytelling, editing, and content development skills.
- Strong photography and videography skills.
- Experience using Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design platforms.
- Strong social media management and analytics skills.
- Ability to translate complex program information into engaging communication products.
