Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Remain calm and respond appropriately to emergency and threatening situations; protect self and others in threatening situations; able to physically subdue and control unruly and resisting individuals.
  • Maintain Officer proficiency standards in the use of firearms and other assigned equipment.
  • Safely operate a Town vehicle in normal and emergency conditions.
  • Perform law enforcement duties including:
    • Administer first aid, as necessary.
    • Assist with transporting arrestees.
    • Fingerprint arrestees.
    • Conduct specialized enforcement details for scheduled events.
    • Respond to callouts for scene security, missing person searches, evidence searches, and other operations to assist patrol officers.
    • Respond to routine ‘cold’ complaints and provide necessary services, within legal parameters, including basic investigation, crime scene processing, and report writing.
  • As necessary, request assistance from higher level officers in other than routine law enforcement matters.
  • Complete mandatory training.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written English, and to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedures, and operating manuals. Ability to author routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of the general public or employees of organizations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to operate telephones; computer terminal, keyboard, photocopier, and scanning instrumentation; gas mask; two-way radios; and law enforcement-related equipment, such as restraints and handcuffs.
  • Must have a valid Colorado driver's license.
  • Must complete requirements for the Colorado Police Officer Standard Training certificate.
  • Must pass various psychological, physical, and background examinations as required.
  • Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification.

The employee hired in this position will be required to pass an extensive criminal background check, psychological exam, physical exam and drug screen as a condition of employment. As a part of this background check the applicant must not have consumed any illegal substances listed under sections 18-18-203 – 18-18-207 within the last year and must not have consumed any marijuana substances within the last six months.
