The position is based in our East Peoria, Illinois, office. At Fehr Graham, we pride ourselves on delivering personalized attention and building trust with our clients. What you’ll do
You’ll get to do a lot of different work in this role, and we should mention the workweek will exceed 40 hours, especially during construction season. We'll count on you to:
- Conduct topographic surveys, construction layout and GPS surveys.
- Operate field surveying instruments, Trimble Total Stations, data collectors and GPS equipment.
- Gather accurate field data and notes.
- Set up, operate and maintain survey equipment.
- Process and organize survey data for use in CAD.
- Support land surveyors and engineering designers.
- Travel to job sites in company-provided vehicles, including some that are out of town.
Where you’ll be
This is an outdoor job, so it’s important you like all types of weather, including hot, cold, wet or otherwise challenging conditions. Field work also:
- Involves walking long distances, standing for extended periods, navigating uneven terrain and carrying equipment, swinging a sledgehammer, and operating maintenance holes and storm inlets.
- Includes safety training and requires appropriate safety gear, which will be provided.
- Includes an allowance for work boots.
What it takes
An associate degree in Surveying or Civil Engineering Technology is a plus, but it is not required. We're looking for someone with some professional experience, but if you are a recent grad, eager to learn and motivated, we are interested. Ideally, you will also:

- Know land surveying practices, field procedures and terminology.
- Have experience with total stations, GPS and data collectors.
- Be willing to work hard, be reliable and willing to work in the field daily.
- Have a valid driver’s license.
- Have strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Be a team player.
