FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: Monday through Friday, 15-25 hrs per week occasional weekends and holidays
Hourly Range: $16.00-$17.50 per hour

The Role:
Thompson Rivers Parks & Recreation District’s is seeking a fun and energetic individual that can help us provide a healthy, happy community through people, parks, programs and partnerships! This individual will perform a wide range of tasks related to care, upkeep, and improvement of parks, open spaces, landscaped areas, and facilities. Employees may perform duties at varying levels of independence depending on experience, training, and demonstrated competency.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform landscape maintenance including trimming, fertilizing, planting, watering, and debris removal.
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and equipment such as push and riding mowers, weed eaters, tractors, and small vehicles.
- Assist with athletic field preparation and general grounds maintenance.
- Assist and perform minor repairs and maintenance on parks, facilities, and irrigation systems.
- Clean and maintain mechanical equipment.
- Read and follow fertilizer and pesticide label instructions as required.
- Report field, facility, or equipment issues to the Parks Department promptly.
- Represent the Parks Department professionally in public interactions.
- May assist with training or guidance of newer staff as experience increases.
- Perform related duties as assigned in support of Parks and Facilities operations.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Have a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment and standard practices of park maintenance.
- Knowledge of mechanical operation of small tractors, mowers, and park related vehicular equipment.
- Knowledge of basic hand and power tools, including chippers, tree spades, chain saws, push mowers, and weed eaters.
- Knowledge of safety rules, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools and landscaping equipment, including weed eaters, pruning tools, and push mowers.
- Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment such as trucks, trailers, riding and push mowers, and tractors.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to maintain and make minor repairs to irrigation system.
- Ability to read and understand pesticide and fertilizer labels.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with supervisors, other employees and the general public.
- Willingness to learn new equipment, safety practices, and procedures.
