Position Overview:

The incumbent will oversee, manage, monitor, analyze, and report on a portfolio of sponsored and non-sponsored faculty accounts. This role provides direct financial and administrative support to multiple departments within the College of Engineering and Information Technology (COEIT) for all financial and fiscal matters related to sponsored and non-sponsored activities. Responsibilities include collaborating with various departments across the university, partnering institutions, external contractors, and private sponsors to ensure compliance, effective financial management, and accurate reporting throughout the lifecycle of sponsored projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide full-service post-award grant support to faculty with externally and internally funded projects to ensure the effective administration and management of awarded funds. Serve as a liaison on behalf of faculty with various UMBC departments, and/or individuals outside of UMBC necessary and resolve financial or administrative matters related to sponsored activities.
  • Work closely with the SSC Pre-Award Team to support the transition of awarded proposals into active accounts and ensure continuity throughout the grant lifecycle. Assist with award setup, review of award terms and conditions, account monitoring, and coordination of administrative processes necessary for successful project management. Support faculty in navigating university procedures, sponsor requirements, and compliance-related matters associated with sponsored projects.
  • Support for reconciliation and reporting on research-related accounts and activities within the College; including sponsored, Self-Support, foundation, and all other research accounts. Responsibilities include monthly account reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial transactions and timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Assist in supporting the campus effort reporting and certification process within the College.
  • Review, process, and approve financial and administrative requests in accordance with institutional policies, sponsor guidelines, and established internal controls.
  • Ad hoc analysis as requested by leadership and/or PIs.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in business administration, accounting, finance, public administration, or a related field.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible experience in research administration, grant management, or sponsored programs management.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying federal regulations (e.g., Uniform Guidance 2 CFR 200), state, and university policies related to sponsored research.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas, functions, and data analysis tools.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Professional certification such as Certified Research Administrator (CRA), Certified Financial Research Administrator (CFRA), or Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator (CPRA) is highly desirable.
  • Experience in post-award sponsored research administration within a higher education setting, including budget and expenditure management, compliance monitoring, and preparation of financial reports in accordance with institutional policies and sponsor guidelines.
  • Progressive experience in budgeting, financial analysis, account reconciliation, financial reporting, forecasting, and other related accounting, finance, or analytical functions is strongly preferred.

Salary:

Salary: $63,000 - $74,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Additional Information: Please note that this is a full-time contractual staff position. The contract term will be for a one-year period, with the option to renew.
