In this context, the 7.5 and 7.2 magnitude earthquakes that struck Venezuela on 24 June 2026 have generated one of the most significant emergencies the country has faced in more than a century. The impact has extended across Caracas and the states of La Guaira, Miranda, Carabobo, Aragua, Falcón, and Yaracuy, resulting in thousands of deaths and injuries, large-scale population displacement, severe damage to homes and critical public infrastructure, as well as prolonged disruptions to water, electricity, telecommunications, health, and education services. Schools, health facilities, water and sanitation systems, roads, and bridges have sustained substantial damage, limiting communities’ access to basic services and further complicating the humanitarian response.

Children and adolescents are among the groups most affected by this emergency. Many have lost their homes, experienced interruptions in their access to education and healthcare, and face increased risks of family separation, psychosocial distress, violence, exploitation, and other violations of their rights. In response, UNICEF has activated and scaled up its emergency response in coordination with the Government and humanitarian partners, providing support in the areas of child protection, health, nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), education in emergencies, and psychosocial support. The scale and complexity of the humanitarian needs require strengthening the organization’s operational capacity to ensure a timely, effective, and child-centered response, particularly in the most vulnerable and hard-to-reach communities.

How can you make a difference?

The Supply and Logistics Officer will report to the Supply and Logistics Specialist for supervision and guidance. The Supply and Logistics Officer provides technical and operational support and is responsible for managing the supply chains of a small country office or specific components of the supply chains within a larger supply operation. Supply chain operations include planning, procurement, contracting, customs clearance, warehousing, in-country transportation and distribution, as well as the monitoring of supplies, services, and construction works. The incumbent supports management collaboration with programme sections in defining supply interventions that meet programmatic needs and contribute to achieving results for children. In addition, the officer provides technical support and advisory services to governments, national systems, and partners on supply chain management.

Minimum requirements:

• Education: Completed first level university degree is required in Business Administration, Management, Economics, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Procurement, Commercial Engineering, Contract/Commercial Law, International Development, Health or related social science field.
• Work Experience: A minimum of one year of relevant experience, at the national and international levels, in supply management, logistics, procurement, contracting, commerce, import/export, operations, customs clearance, warehousing, inventory management, transportation, vendor management, administration and/or other directly related technical fields is required.
• Skills: Understanding of development and humanitarian work is required.
  Basic understanding of supply chain processes, from programme needs assessment, through planning, procurement and contracting, logistics and delivery, monitoring and evaluation is required.
  Demonstrated experience in supervising people is required.
  Good analytical skills and negotiating skills are required.
• Language Requirements: Fluency in Spanish and Intermediate level in English is required.

Desirables:

• Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French or Russian) is an asset.
• Proficiency in English is desirable.
• Emergency experience is an advantage.
• Health supply chain management experience is an advantage.
• Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts is an asset.
