OVERVIEW
Vertex is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent Junior Environmental Scientist to join our team. In this role, you will support a variety of oil and gas assessment and remediation projects, helping deliver high-quality environmental solutions that meet project objectives, regulatory requirements, and client expectations. This role will focus on developing the core field skills for environmental assessments and remediation.
The successful candidate will be mostly involved in the field stage of project execution; however, there will be the opportunity to learn how to support the development of work plans and cost estimates, project coordination, data interpretation, and reporting. This position is well suited to a motivated environmental professional who enjoys being outdoors, takes pride in executing quality work and cares about the environment.
As part of the Vertex team, you will play an important role in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality work while contributing to successful outcomes for our clients and the environment.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATION
- Diploma, degree, or higher education in environmental science, biology, or a related discipline.
- Is qualified to obtain a professional designation or in-training designation applicable for conducting professional sign-off in Alberta.
- 1 to 2 years of environmental consulting or related field experience, with demonstrated experience in:
o Phase I and Phase II program execution; and
o Remediation programs
- Willingness and ability to complete field work for extended periods throughout Western Canada (predominantly Alberta).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Hydrogeology experience or background would be considered an asset.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Field work is a requirement, approximately 80% or more of time will be allocated to the field
- Provide support during environmental site assessments projects (Phase I and II ESAs).
- Provide support during remediation activities
- Provide support during groundwater monitoring projects
- Provide support during reclamation activities
- Data management (data tables, photographs, inputting field data sheets, analysis and interpretation)
- Reporting (all types, styles and formats that Vertex produces)
- Keep up-to-date on industry guidelines and regulatory requirements as it relates to reclamation and revegetation in Western Canada
- Create high-quality content that conveys technical concepts
- Other duties as directed by your direct supervisor or manager

- This position will be based out of our Sherwood Park office.
