Are you a detail-driven problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced environment? Walker Consultants is looking for a proactive and organized Project Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team in Hoffman Estates, IL.

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Project Accountant to support financial operations for an engineering consulting firm.

You will work closely with project managers and clients to track project actual results and budgets, generate and send invoices for services, assist with collection of accounts receivables , and ensure compliance with contract requirements. Responsibilities

  • Manage the full project accounting lifecycle for a portfolio of projects—from setup through closeout.
  • Prepare and issue invoices in accordance with contract terms (fixed-fee, time & materials, cost-plus, etc.).
  • Ensure timely and accurate billing while coordinating with clients and Project Managers to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Partner with PMs to ensure invoices are accurate, timely, and aligned with contract requirements—including required backup and portal submissions.
  • Work with Project Managers to review financial aspects of multiple engineering projects, ensuring alignment with budgets and contracts.
  • Track project costs, including labor, materials, and subcontractor expenses, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist in developing project budgets and forecasts in collaboration with project managers and senior leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate documentation and financial records.
  • Partner with project managers to ensure proper financial oversight and cost control.
  • Work with Project Managers and finance teams to optimize expense tracking and reporting processes.
  • Implement best practices for project accounting within the A&E industry.

 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years of project accounting experience, preferably in the Architecture, Engineering, or Construction (AEC) industry.
  • Software Proficiency: Experience with industry-specific ERP software such as Deltek Ajera, Deltek Vantagepoint, BST Global, or SAP.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of contract types (Lump Sum, T&M, Cost-Plus), revenue recognition, and project financials in A&E firms.
  • Analytical & Communication Skills: Ability to interpret financial data, provide insights, and collaborate effectively with project teams and clients.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong ability to manage multiple projects while ensuring accuracy in reporting and compliance.
