We’re seeking a Construction Cost Accountant to serve as a trusted financial partner on active general contracting projects. This role is designed for an experienced professional who understands how jobs really run — from pre-construction handoff through closeout — and who brings both financial discipline and strong interpersonal skills to the table.
At Wolverine, cost accountants are respected contributors. You’ll have ownership of project financials, direct interaction with project leadership, owners, and subcontractors– and the expectation to anticipate issues, not just report them.
This is a hands-on role with meaningful responsibility — not a supervisory role, but one where your experience and judgment are expected to guide outcomes.
Full ownership of job setup, maintenance, and closeout across the financial systems
Partnering directly with Project Managers on job cost accuracy, revenue recognition, and forecasting
Reviewing, approving, and troubleshooting subcontractor and job cost invoices
Preparing and analyzing monthly job cost reports, identifying trends, variances, and potential risks
Managing monthly progress billings and monitoring over/under billings
Preparing sworn statements and managing lien waiver compliance
Supporting subcontract drafting, change orders, and contract modifications
Monitoring receivables, retention, and subcontractor payments
Ensuring project financials integrate cleanly into company financial statements
Identifying opportunities to improve processes, controls, and reporting quality
5+ years of construction cost accounting experience with a General Contractor or Subcontractor
2+ years of experience working in a construction ERP, such as Acumatica, Procore, Viewpoint
Prior experience working with Cost-Plus contracts and MSHDA projects is preferred
Demonstrated experience managing project financials for multiple active jobs simultaneously
Strong working knowledge of construction accounting concepts, including AIA billing, progress billings, and change orders
Knowledge of contract management / compliance and lien waivers
Project teams trust your numbers and seek out your input
Job cost reports are clean, timely, and defensible
Billing is accurate, compliant, and predictable
Financial issues are surfaced early and addressed proactively
Processes improve because you bring experience and perspective
Accounting is viewed as a partner to operations, not a downstream function
You’ll work on meaningful construction projects with real complexity
Your experience will be relied upon — not micromanaged
Stable organization with professional standards and long-term perspective
