Overview: Quinnipiac University invites applications for the position of Technical Services Assistant.  The position will assist in the operation of Technical Services under the supervision of the Associate Director, Collection Management.

Responsibilities:
  • Under the supervision of the Associate Director, Collection Management, collect, compile, track and maintain usage statistics on the effectiveness of library databases, resources and services through interaction using vendor software programs and websites; monitor collection usage against national trends and prepare customized reports from gathered data utilizing spreadsheets and presentation software. Work with other library staff to explore AI-supported data analysis tools to identify trends, forecast resource usage, and automate report creation. Assist with experimentation using AI-generated summaries or visualizations of usage data.
  • Responsible for the acquisitions lifecycle of digital and physical library materials, including ordering collection material, verifying receipt of materials, and processing materials using the library management system software. Use and implement AI-assisted tool to streamline acquisition workflows and identify acquisition efficiencies that may benefit from new technologies, including invoice processing, order verification, data extraction, or duplicate record detection.
  • Purchase materials using a variety of vendor ordering systems, responsible for requisition and payment in the Quinnipiac financial systems and Visa purchasing card. Keep accurate records and maintain payment files of receipts.
  • Assist other staff in working with university archives material. Sort, arrange, and label archival material. Prepare lists of items. Follow proper handling procedures to clean, repair, and stabilize fragile documents. Maintain a neat and organized collection area.
  • Oversee student workers.
  • Prepare and maintain library user guides on relevant topics.
  • As part of a team: cover library service desks; sort and distribute Library mail and digitize materials for the repository and patron use.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a library, academic, or information services environment.
  • Demonstrated experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting usage statistics using spreadsheets (e.g., Excel) and data visualization tools (e.g., PowerPoint, Tableau, or similar).
    Familiarity with library systems and platforms, including integrated library systems (ILS), vendor databases, and usage tracking tools (e.g., COUNTER reports).
  • Experience with acquisitions workflows for both digital and physical materials, including ordering, invoicing, and record management.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple workflows such as acquisitions, reporting, and archival processing simultaneously.
  • Experience handling financial transactions, maintaining records, and reconciling purchases (e.g., procurement systems, purchasing cards).
  • Ability to work accurately with detailed records and maintain data integrity.
    Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience creating user guides or instructional documentation.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality user service in a library setting.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds.

  • Please note this is a Grade 7 position in the Clerical & Technical Union.
  • The starting hourly rate is $28.91.
  • In addition, you are eligible for an additional .75 per hour if you have a bachelor’s degree or .35 per hour if you have an associate degree.
  • This is a full‑time position with a 35‑hour workweek.
  • This position requires the successful completion of a Microsoft Office skills test, proofreading test, and background check.
