West Point Grey Academy is seeking a Humanities Tutor to support students in the Senior School Learning Support Centre (The Study) for the 2026-27 school year. This is a one-year term contract, supporting a colleague who is on leave and who is expected to return in September 2027. It is eligible for benefits.

The Study is a calm, supportive and student-centred learning environment where senior school students receive targeted academic support, develop effective learning strategies, and build confidence as learners. Reporting to the Director of the Study, the Humanities Tutor plays an important role in helping students engage more successfully with English Language Arts, Socials Studies, and other humanities-based coursework, while fostering independence, self-advocacy, and resilience.
Impact of the Role:
In this role, you will help ensure that:
- Students receive responsive, strengths-based academic support in humanities courses
- Learners develop stronger reading, writing, research, and organizational skills
- Students strengthen clarity, accuracy, and confidence in their written work, particularly in English Language Arts and humanities courses
- Students feel understood, encouraged, and capable in their learning
- Diverse learning profiles are met through thoughtful, flexible approaches
In your first year at WPGA, you'll be directly involved in:
Student Academic Support
- Providing one-to-one and small group tutoring to Senior School students in English Language Arts and humanities courses
- Supporting students in revising written work with attention to grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and academic conventions appropriate to Senior School humanities courses
- Supporting students with reading comprehension, writing development, research skills, and study strategies
- Helping students break down assignments, plan their work, and build academic confidence
- Adapting support approaches to meet diverse learning styles and needs
Collaboration & Communication
- Working collaboratively with Learning Support colleagues, classroom teachers, and counsellors to support student learning
- Communicating observations and insights that help inform student support plans
- Maintaining appropriate confidentiality and professionalism in all aspects of the role
Learning Environment & Wellbeing
- Building positive, trusting relationships with adolescents
- Creating a calm, welcoming, and structured environment within The Study
- Supporting students' academic wellbeing alongside their social and emotional needs

- Understanding the BC curriculum at a general level, particularly in humanities subjects
- Working with adolescents in educational, tutoring, or mentoring contexts

About Us
Founded in 1996, West Point Grey Academy is an independent co-educational day school in Vancouver, British Columbia. Set on 18 acres with sweeping views of English Bay and the North Shore mountains, we offer future-focused programs to approximately 940 students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12.
