Safety Support Technician Job Description

Job Title:  Safety Support Technician

Reports To:  Safety Coordinator

Position Status: Full-time

Compensation:  ($18-22 (DOE)

General Job Description: 

Ensures workplace compliance with health and safety regulations (OSHA, EPA) by conducting inspections, preventative maintenance, and employee training. They will help identify hazards and conduct repairs to ensure safe working environment.



Skills and Abilities:

  • Assist the Safety Coordinator in the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of workplace safety programs and procedures. 
  • Perform assigned work orders accurately and within established timeframes.
  • Perform general maintenance and repair tasks, including but not limited to:
    • Installation, maintenance, and repair of weed matting and ground cover systems
    • Light electrical work, such as replacement of fixtures, basic troubleshooting, and minor wiring tasks within the scope of training and regulatory compliance
    • Light construction and repair, including minor carpentry, structural upkeep, and installation of nursery-related infrastructure (e.g., fencing, shade structures, irrigation supports).
    • Assisting other departments as needed for repairs and maintenance
    • Other duties and assignments as needed.
  • Conduct routine inspections of nursery grounds, equipment, and facilities to identify hazards or maintenance needs; promptly report findings.
  • Assist in implementing corrective actions to mitigate safety risks and ensure compliance with applicable regulations, including OSHA/WISHA and Oregon OSHA standards. 
  • Support safety inspections, audits, and documentation processes as required.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in a safe, organized, and serviceable condition.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies, standard operating procedures, and regulatory requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Document completed work activities and provide status updates on assigned tasks when prompted.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • CDL Class A 
  • Demonstrated experience in agricultural operations, nursery maintenance, general construction, or facilities support preferred
  • Basic working knowledge of electrical systems, carpentry, and general repair techniques
  • Basic knowledge and ability to use machinery (tractors, backhoe, dump trucks, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret and follow work orders, technical instructions, and safety guidelines
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment
  • Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Familiarity with agricultural safety standards and regulatory requirements a plus, but not required
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred

 

Physical Requirements

  • Physical capability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and working in outdoor conditions
  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor nursery settings, including greenhouses, shade houses, and open field areas
  • Regular exposure to varying weather conditions, irrigation systems, soil, and plant materials
  • Work schedules may vary based on seasonal demands and operational needs
