We are currently looking for a Camper Care Manager to join our team of committed professionals. This Full-time Contract position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s John Island Camp location near Spanish, ON. Under the leadership of the Director of John Island Camp, the Camper Care Manager is responsible for the emotional health and well-being of all campers. They work alongside the Wellness Manager to provide care to campers and staff, supervise the Counselling Team Leads, and, together with the Program Manager, oversee the Counselling Team. The Camper Care Manager consults with parents or guardians as needed, conducts 48-hour camper check-ins, ensures daily cabin cleanliness, and manages the laundry of soiled camper items. START DATE: May 1, 2026LOCATION: YMCA John IslandRATE OF PAY: $18.00-$19.50 Major Responsibilities Ensure a high-quality, participant-focused, safe, and supportive camp environment that promotes emotional well-being Conduct wellness check-ins for all campers within the first 48 hours of arrival and as needed throughout camp Supervise Counselling Team Leads and the Counselling Team, in collaboration with the Program Manager Make consult calls to parents or guardians when required to discuss camper well-being Perform daily cabin checks to ensure cleanliness and comfort Manage laundry for soiled camper items Adhere to YMCA and John Island Camp policies, procedures, and guidelines Other duties as assigned by the Association Qualifications Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is considered an asset. Applicants with education completed outside of Canada must submit a WES with their application. Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification Experience providing emotional support and care to children or youth in a camp or residential setting Experience conducting performance management with direct reports Supervisory experience managing a team in a program or camp environment Strong verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills Knowledge of CQRP and OCA programs is an asset Mental Health First Aid certification is considered an asset National Lifeguard Service (NLS) certification is considered an asset Minimum two years’ experience in a senior camp or outdoor centre role Minimum three to four years’ experience working at summer camps or outdoor centres Bilingualism in both official languages is an asset Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening   HOW TO APPLY If you would like to work in a family friendly environment, please apply, by website only, with a cover letter and resume by April 30, 2026 to the attention of the Hiring Manager.    CAMP EQUITABLE EMPLOYMENT FUND The Camp Equitable Employment Fund (CEEF) is a grant created to reduce barriers to camp employment for individuals who have been historically marginalized and underrepresented in the camping industry. The fund is open to Canadians, ages 18 to 25, who are a part of a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) communities. Ideal candidates will have previous experience, or a demonstrated interest, in working with youth. Camp-specific experience is not required. Successful applicants will receive financial assistance to offset the personal expenses of working in the outdoor industry. This could include: certification courses, personal gear, equipment and travel costs.
