Making family care possible. At Abby Care, we are tackling one of the most important and unsolved challenges of our time: family caregiving.

Over 50 million Americans are family caregivers for loved ones without pay, tools, or support. Our mission is clear and ambitious: to train and employ family caregivers so they can get paid for the care they already provide at home.

Abby Care is building a tech-powered, family-first care platform to efficiently deliver care, improve health outcomes, and provide the best-in-class experience nationwide.

We are rapidly expanding our mission and looking for passionate team members to join. Abby Care has partnered with leading insurance plans, healthcare providers, and community organizations. We’re supported by top, mission-driven VCs to empower families throughout the country.

We’re looking for an experienced and driven individual to join us as a Applied AI Engineer. You will report to the VP, Head of Engineering. This is a full-time opportunity based in San Francisco, CA (4 days in-person)

Abby Care is reimagining family caregiving by building AI-native products that act as intelligent copilots for families and clinicians. In this role, you’ll design and build AI systems that help families navigate care, support clinicians in care delivery, and unlock entirely new models of home-based care. You’ll work hands-on with models and real-world clinical and operational data to invent what AI-assisted caregiving can look like, shaping the product roadmap and the future of care as a key early engineer.

Responsibilities

  • Build AI-powered products from concept to production. You will own the end-to-end development of applied AI systems, from problem framing and model selection to implementation, evaluation, and deployment. This includes prototyping copilots and intelligent features, integrating models into production systems, and iterating based on real user feedback from families and clinicians.

  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams to apply AI to real-world care. You will collaborate with operations, clinical, compliance, product, and engineering teams to design AI solutions that are safe, trustworthy, and practical in highly regulated environments. You will help translate complex technical ideas into clear product capabilities that directly advance our mission.

  • Advance technical excellence in applied AI. You will deepen expertise in areas such as LLMs, agentic workflows, machine learning infrastructure, and data security, while also exploring new approaches to human-in-the-loop AI and clinical decision support. You’ll help set the bar for quality, safety, and innovation as we build next-generation AI systems in one of the most impactful and complex sectors in the U.S.
