Planner

PRIMARY DUTIES
Include the following but other duties may be assigned. *

• Review customer drawings, blueprints, specifications, purchase-order requirements, models and other technical documentation to determine manufacturing requirements and develop complete work-order packages.
• Create, revise and maintain BOMs, manufacturing routers, operation sequences, work instructions and other planning documentation required to release work to production.
• Define logical manufacturing sequences, including machining, inspection, deburr, special processes, outside processing and other required operations, in coordination with Programming, Quality and Operations.
• Ensure work-order packages accurately capture customer, drawing, quality and internal requirements, including applicable notes, inspection points, special-process requirements and traceability needs.
• Create and maintain work orders for outside processing, tooling or fixture fabrication, as applicable, and identify required supporting documentation.
• Coordinate with CNC Programming and manufacturing personnel to confirm machine/process capability, setups, tooling assumptions and practical routing of work through the shop.
• Coordinate with Production Control and other stakeholders to prioritize and release complete planning packages in support of production schedules and customer ship dates.
• Maintain accurate planning data in the ERP/MRP system, including routing steps, setup and run-time standards, BOM information and other manufacturing master data within the Planner's assigned scope.
• Review existing planning for repeat work and incorporate approved lessons learned, process changes, engineering changes and documented improvements while maintaining configuration control.
• Investigate planning, routing and documentation issues identified before or during production; determine required corrections and coordinate timely resolution with affected functions.
• Support MRB, corrective-action and continuous-improvement activities when planning, routing, tooling, documentation or manufacturing sequence is a contributing factor.
• Evaluate opportunities to reduce non-value-added steps, improve flow, reduce rework and improve manufacturability, quality, cost and on-time delivery without compromising customer or quality requirements.
• Communicate planning status, constraints, risks and required actions to appropriate stakeholders and escalate issues that may affect schedule, quality or customer requirements.
• Operate in compliance with internal quality systems (e.g., AS9100) and, where applicable, with customer/regulatory requirements for aerospace/defense parts.
• Ensure compliance with aerospace/defense regulatory requirements (AS9100, ITAR, customer-specific standards).

• Reports unsafe conditions to manager and attends all required safety training.
• Assists other departments and/or areas as requested by management or supervisor.
• Follows company policies, quality-system requirements and safety guidelines; reports accidents and injuries immediately.
• Participates in cross-functional process-improvement, standardization and planning-data cleanup activities as assigned.

•  Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing planning, manufacturing engineering or a closely related role in a job-shop, precision machining or similar manufacturing environment.
• Strong working knowledge of CNC machining, machine setup, tooling, work holding and common manufacturing operations used in a precision machine-shop environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, GD&T-related requirements, factory orders, routers and other manufacturing documentation.
• Working knowledge of BOMs, routings, work instructions, operation sequencing, manufacturing master data and change/revision control.
• Experience using ERP/MRP systems for manufacturing planning, routing, reporting and/or production support.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and collaborate effectively with Programming, Production Control, Quality, Operations and customer-facing functions.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Strong Excel and manufacturing-data analysis skills are desirable.
• Aerospace or other highly regulated manufacturing experience is preferred, including familiarity with controlled documentation, traceability and customer-specific requirements.

• Ability to Use or operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine, and computer printer etc.
• Ability to walk or move to regularly move about inside the office or onto the facility.
• Ability to see or detect, identify, recognize or Assess surroundings while in the office or facility areas
• Ability to bend, turn and stoop occasionally
• Ability to sit or be stationary for extended continuous periods of time
• Ability to stand for occasional periods of time
• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds
• Ability to go up and down stairs.

 
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing their job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will spend approximately 80% (excluding breaks and meal periods) of time in an office environment and 20% of the time in the facility. When working in the facility it requires the use of personal protective equipment including (but not limited to) safety slip/ oil resistant shoes and safety glasses.
