Data ScientistData

We are a leading AgTech and Input business that operates throughout selected international markets as part of a global group of Agri Technovation (AT) companies. As a fast-growing business, we are looking to expand our team with suitably qualified and experienced candidates looking for an opportunity to become part of our company and all it has to offer.

This Senior Data Scientist role is ideal for someone who thinks visually, analytically and creatively, and who enjoys turning complex, messy data into clear stories, useful models and decision‑ready insight. We welcome candidates who may not have followed a traditional data science career path. If you come from finance, medical science, retail, research or any other analytical discipline—and pivoted into data science because you love discovery, pattern‑finding and problem‑solving—this role was written with you in mind.

You will work closely with technical teams, domain experts and business stakeholders to design, shape and deliver data‑driven products that matter.

Main Responsibilities

  • Design and build data‑driven solutions and products using both existing and emerging data sources.
  • Work closely with internal teams and key stakeholders to understand real‑world problems and translate them into analytical opportunities.
  • Connect analytical output to clear business value, including new revenue opportunities and operational efficiencies.
  • Apply structured thinking to transform, prepare and explore data for modelling, insight generation and visual communication.
  • Create analyses that are not just correct, but understandable, persuasive and useful to decision‑makers.
  • Identify new ways data and analytics can be applied across the business to unlock value.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by enhancing data quality, reliability and speed of delivery.
  • Diagnose and resolve data quality or consistency issues with curiosity and attention to detail.
  • Respond to ad‑hoc analytical requests where fresh thinking or fast turnaround is required.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys finding meaning in complexity and ambiguity.
  • Thinks in patterns, visuals and narratives—not just tables and code.
  • Is comfortable moving between business questions and technical execution.
  • Can engage people, explain ideas clearly and spark curiosity around data.
  • Takes ownership, works proactively and cares deeply about quality.

Skills and Capabilities

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindset.
  • Excellent data visualisation and insight‑communication skills.
  • Solid business intuition and the ability to connect analysis to outcomes.
  • Confidence presenting complex ideas in a clear, compelling way.
  • Technologically curious, adaptable and self‑driven.
  • High attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture.

 Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in finance, medical science, retail, research or any other analytical discipline.
  • 3–5 years of experience applying data science, analytics or advanced analytical methods in real world contexts.
  • A proven ability to deliver working models, insights or analytical products that have been used in practice.
  • Exposure to agriculture, biological systems or environmental data is advantageous—but not essential
  • We value depth of thinking and applied insight as much as formal credentials.
  • Candidates who have followed nontraditional paths into data science, through adjacent analytical fields or self-directed learning, are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new tools, concepts and domains independently, and to apply them thoughtfully to real‑world problems.
  • Proficient in Python, R and associated database technologies

NOTE: Candidates MUST reside in South Africa and must be legally authorized to work in South Africa on a full time basis
