The IT Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and support of the organisation’s IT systems, networks, and infrastructure. The role ensures high system availability and effective end-user support, while contributing to both technical and physical IT environments.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Set up and configure laptops, desktops, iPads, and peripheral devices according to company standards.
  • Provide first-line support and basic troubleshooting for end users across macOS and Windows.
  • Diagnose and repair hardware issues, including disassembly and reassembly of laptops.
  • Install, configure, and maintain software, systems, and user workstations.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot LAN/Wi-Fi networks, including access points.
  • Perform network cabling, including running cables, crimping, and testing connections.
  • Maintain network cabinets and associated infrastructure.
  • Work in ceilings and at heights when required for installations.
  • Install, configure, and maintain CCTV systems, including camera positioning and lens cleaning.
  • Maintain accurate records of IT assets and equipment.
  • Assist with procurement and collection/delivery of IT equipment (including travel as required).
  • Perform routine maintenance, hardware checks, and system updates.
  • Maintain logs of support, repairs, and maintenance activities.
  • Support and enforce IT policies and security standards.
  • Perform general IT housekeeping (cable management, workstation setup, etc.).
  • Carry out ad hoc duties as required.
  • Responsibilities are not limited to the above and may evolve based on operational needs.

 

Skills and Capabilities

  • Solid understanding of hardware, Windows/macOS, and basic software support
  • Working knowledge of LAN/Wi-Fi, cabling, crimping, and troubleshooting
  • Hands-on ability with installations, network infrastructure, and field work (heights/ceilings)
  • Basic CCTV installation, positioning, and maintenance
  • Strong hardware repair skills (laptops, peripherals)
  • Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
  • Good attention to detail in setup, cabling, and asset tracking
  • Reliable, organised, and able to manage workload in a 24/7 environment
  • Clear communication and user support skills
  • Adaptable, self-motivated, and willing to take initiative
  • Able to handle equipment logistics, stock, and supplier coordination

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Qualifications

  • National Senior Certificate
  • Diploma in Information Technology will be advantageous.
  • Certification as an IT Technician will be advantageous (g. CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional)

 

Experience

  • Experience as an IT, Cabling, CCTV or Network Technician preferred.

 

Other specific requirements

  • Fully bilingual (Afrikaans and English)
  • Based in Wellington or Paarl
  • 24/7 Availability
  • Own Transport
