The Orbital Analyst (OA) supporting the Protected Band operations of the OAS III program is responsible for the real-time management of operational satellite communications (SATCOM) systems, mitigating risks, and ensuring mission success under time-sensitive conditions.  This role supports protected band communications within the AEHF, and Milstar constellations and directly contributes to global mission assurance. This OA role will provide on-site system technical support for satellite anomaly resolution, collaboration with software teams, and basic-level mission planning. Additionally, the OA Protected Band Analyst will serve as a key contributor to the OA Protected Band Lead in areas such as system planning, orbital determinations, architectural analysis, and quantitative analysis. Key responsibilities include reviewing and updating OA training materials, developing technical information reports, OA procedures, worksheets, job aids, and maintaining proficiency records for assigned personnel.

 

  • Perform orbital analysis tasks supporting satellite operations, including orbit determination, vector estimation, and mission planning.
  • Support special operations, including launch, anomaly resolution, relocation, and disposal activities.
  • Support OA training, certifications, and skill sustainment programs under Lead OA guidance.
  • Generate and provide daily orbital data to support multiple satellite contacts and command and control activities.
  • Assist in maintaining and reviewing technical documentation such as OA procedures, job aids, worksheets, and training materials.
  • Assist in the generation of orbital products such as ephemerides, maneuver plans, and conjunction assessment messages.
  • Participate in required meetings and generate technical reports.
  • Collaborate with government stakeholders and OA team to ensure product delivery and mission alignment.
  • Provide support for SOC shutdown/restarts and software/database configuration.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of OA procedures, worksheets, and job aids.
  • Participate in simulations, rehearsals, and training exercises.
  • Collaborate with senior OAs to enhance Protected Band mission support capabilities.
  • Support procedure development, data analysis, and other related activities as directed by management.

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Astrophysics, Applied Mathematics, or related STEM field required; or 4 years of direct OA experience in lieu of degree.
  • Completion of USAF/USSF Orbital Analyst Level II certification (preferred or within 4 months of hire).
  • Additional training in satellite operations, astrodynamics, or SSA is desirable.

 

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in developing training materials or instruction for OA functions.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience applying mathematical principles in a technical or operational setting.
  • Prior work with WGS or DCSC systems is preferred.
  • Experience in Space Domain Awareness mission.
  • Experience in supporting modeling, simulation, and analysis of national security space-related problems is desired.
  • Experience working with JSON and XML files, often used for data exchange and API definitions.
  • Ability to operate or learn orbital modeling tools (e.g., STK, MATLAB, FreeFlyer).
  • Working knowledge of conjunction assessment, satellite maneuver planning, and protected SATCOM operations.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of AEHF and Milstar satellite systems is required.
  • Familiarity with orbital mechanics, coordinating systems, and space environment effects.
  • Knowledge of configuration management principles.
  • Effective written and verbal communication and coordination with internal teams and government stakeholders.
  • Ability to contribute to training program development, maintenance of certification records, and job aids.
  • Strong teamwork and analytical thinking abilities.

 

  • Must be able to stand and sit for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, reach, stretch, kneel, and squat.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks or motions for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds at a time and push and/or pull 50-pound loads at a time.
  • Physically able to access secure government facilities and SCIF environments.
  • Must meet all physical requirements for secure facility access.

 

  • This is an Onsite position that requires work to be performed at Schriever SFS, CO.
  • Working indoors in an office environment.
  • Potentially exposed to electrical or mechanical hazards, elevated work areas, and confined spaces.
  • Must comply with all applicable cybersecurity and DoD information assurance policies.
  • May require occasional travel or support contingency operations.
  • May involve rotating shifts or on-call duty in support of 24/7 mission requirements.

  • Must possess, or be able to obtain, and maintain a Top Secret with SCI eligibility clearance.
  • Must be able to be cleared for base or site access.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be available for a flexible work schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
