We inspire. * Job Title: Accountant * Pay Band – PB4 * Closing Date (Time) – 19th May 2026 * Location – Amman Jordan * Salary : JOD 654 Monthly Salary Purpose of job: This role supports the Financial Control team by working with the Managed Service Provider to ensure accurate and timely completion of financial accounts and reporting. The position handles finance administration, coordination, and logistical support for a local business unit/country in Jordan, with responsibility for operational compliance with local tax legislation. Key duties include preparing timely tax returns with related analysis and reconciliations, maintaining books of accounts per local requirements, and supporting inspections and audits Main opportunities/challenges for this role Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties: Finance and Resource Management * Collaborate closely with the MSP and British Council controllership teams to support the delivery of retained financial processes, ensuring accurate, consistent, and robust financial accounting in line with corporate policies and accounting standards. * Maintain financial records in compliance with corporate policies and internal audit requirements. * Execute all financial accounting and reporting activities related to month-end and year-end pre-closing processes. * Support accounting transactions, including accruals, deferrals, provisions, and reconciliations (including intercompany accounting). Assist with manual journal entries and off-system payment requests, ensuring accuracy and compliance. * Assist in the preparation of financial reports and data extraction from SAP. Contribute to statutory reporting and support local tax submissions and other regulatory returns. * Prepare and review monthly tax calculations for individuals under civil agreements. * Provide support during internal and external audits, including implementation of audit recommendations. Escalate financial accounting issues to senior team members where necessary. * Assist in management accounting activities and the preparation of management reports as required. Tax Compliance * Support the preparation and timely filing of tax returns (VAT, CIT, WHT, Stamp Duty, and other applicable taxes) in accordance with local legislation and internal approval processes. * Assist in system testing related to tax changes to ensure compliance. * Monitor the tax calendar, ensuring all filings and payments are completed within statutory deadlines. * Prepare tax-related balance sheet reconciliations within defined timelines. * Support withholding tax management and reconciliations. * Ensure monthly reconciliation between the e-invoicing platform and SAP. * Assist in e-invoice system management, including reconciliations and follow-ups. * Monitor and respond promptly to tax queries, ensuring resolution within defined timelines. Tax Advisory * Review communications and clarifications issued by tax authorities (e.g., Income & Sales Tax Departments) and assess their applicability to British Council operations. * Provide advisory support on tax-related queries, system changes, and process updates driven by regulatory changes. * Analyse reported data submitted to authorities and identify potential tax risks for the organisation. Stakeholder Engagement * Conduct regular meetings with stakeholders to understand operational processes and identify gaps arising from changes in tax regulations. * Keep stakeholders informed about updates and amendments in tax laws. Documentation Review – Procurement and Sales * Review invoices to ensure compliance with tax regulations. * Reconcile purchase and sales registers with filed tax returns. Tax Audit * Ensure all required documentation is maintained in accordance with local legislation, including supporting justifications and internal approvals. * Support tax audits by providing relevant documentation, analysis, and responses to tax authorities. * Assist the Financial Controller, MENA Regional Tax Lead, and Global Tax Team in preparing communications to tax authorities. Language Requirement: English & Arabic Role specific knowledge and experience Minimum/Essential: * Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience with accounting or ERP software as SAP. * Accounting Knowledge: Strong understanding of local GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards, and experience preparing financial statements. * Soft Skills: Excellent attention to detail, strong communication (written and verbal), time management, and the ability to work under deadlines. * Experience: 2+ years of relevant accounting experience including tax. Desirable: * Shared Service Operations * Experience of working in an international organisation and/or multi-cultural organisation. * SAP Experience * Prior experience in Tax consultancy firm.
