The Manager, Asset Performance and Reliability, Generation is responsible for providing technical leadership in generation and driving the asset performance and reliability of EnPower’s power generation assets. This leadership role ensures that the generation fleet operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with ISO and regulatory requirements and standards.
This position has primary responsibility for asset reliability, maintenance strategy, and execution of related projects and activities. This role also manages interconnection agreements for operating assets and supports the interconnection process for new assets under development. This role oversees all maintenance and project work for the generation business, leads the operations and facility engineering team, is responsible for capital planning activities, and executes other initiatives to ensure EnPower’s generation assets are operated, maintained, and modified in alignment with technical standards, regulatory requirements, and business standards and objectives.
This collaborative role liaises with the operations, commercial and markets/regulatory team within the Power Generation business line in achieving power generation business line objectives and with EnPower support teams including technical authorities and projects in managing power generation reliability, maintenance and related activities.
Responsibilities

· Support outage planning, execution, troubleshooting, and post-outage engineering analysis.
· Provide technical oversight to operations and maintenance teams to ensure assets are operated and maintained within design limits, operating procedures, and reliability expectations.
· Lead asset reliability and maintenance improvement efforts, including failure analysis, risk prioritization, preventive maintenance optimization, and reliability KPI performance.
· Direct management of change (MOC) activities for engineering and operational modifications, including technical review, risk assessment, budget, schedules, quality requirements, documentation, training, and closure of actions.
· Manage interconnection agreements and activities for existing assets.
· Support and execute on generation Asset Management Plans in collaboration with the power generation commercial and markets teams
· Collaborate with the commercial team on asset optimization opportunities.
· Work with power generation team to meet business line metrics and KPIs and continually optimize plant process performance.
· Oversee interconnection agreements and support the effective management and execution of various service agreements
· Maintain good company relations with landowners, vendors, regulators, and other asset stakeholders.
· Oversee maintenance capital and expenditures, and reliability project work from scope development through execution and close-out, ensuring technical quality, schedule, budget, and operational readiness.
· Liaise with technical services and project teams in executing relevant project work
· Collaborate with the commercial team on asset optimization opportunities.
· Lead engineering input into annual and long-term capital planning, lifecycle strategies, and project management of major plant upgrades.
· Develop and support short- and multi-year maintenance, reliability, and capital plans for generation assets and related facility engineering priorities.
· Ensure all engineering designs, maintenance standards, and modifications comply with federal, provincial, and local electrical and environmental safety codes.
· Evaluate assets to determine their optimal technical role in EnPower’s generation strategy.
· Provide reporting and planning input on asset condition, reliability risks, project status, outage scope, and operational readiness.
· Guide safety practices, support integrity programs, and promote a culture of inclusion and compliance.
· Ensure compliance with ISO Rules, Alberta Reliability Standards, NERC and CIP compliance for assigned assets and activities, including evidence collection, self-certifications, audit readiness, and responses to AESO/ISO/MSA/MCAD inquiries.
· Support compliance programs, processes, and controls to support interconnection obligations, operational compliance, and engineering governance.
· Ensure engineering designs, maintenance practices, operational procedures, and plant modifications meet applicable regulatory, reliability, and industry standards.
· Lead identification, tracking, and closure of compliance gaps, corrective actions, and non-conformances in partnership with operations, safety and technical teams.
· Collaborate with the safety team and environment team to ensure ongoing compliance with government and company regulations.
· Champion health, safety and environment expectations in all engineering, asset performance and maintenance activities; ensure changes and projects incorporate safety and environmental controls.
· Support incident investigations, corrective actions, and emergency response planning

· Lead by example maintaining the highest standard of safety by ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
· Lead and follow Crisis Management Plans - Emergency Response Plans & Business Continuity Plans, including Pandemic Response Plans.
· Recruit, mentor, and develop a multi-disciplinary team through coaching and technical guidance.
· Build positive relationships with power generation business line support services, including the Technical Services and Projects teams.
· Establish departmental goals, conduct performance reviews, and ensure the team possesses the technical competencies required to support EnPower’s generation operations and ongoing business performance and objectives.
· Monitor progress and provide ongoing feedback and coaching with each direct report to foster personal engagement and growth.
· Ensure direct reports understand the performance, development, and evaluation process and their contributions to the overall performance of the organization.
· Represent ATCO’s core values within the communities and industries we serve.
· Electrical Engineering Degree or similar professional designation
· P.Eng designation with APEGA
· 10+ years experience in operation management, leading cross functional teams
· Minimum 5 years related experience in generation facility operations and contract administration.
· Experience with renewable energy operations (wind, solar and hydro) is an asset
· Understanding of the regulatory requirements associated with operating energy projects in multiple jurisdictions is an asset
· Knowledge of Alberta and Ontario regulatory requirements
· Strong strategic, communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills
· Demonstrated ability to evaluate issues and make appropriate decisions, assess relevant risks and recommend and implement appropriate actions
· Good written and oral communication skills with knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
· Well-developed interpersonal skills, able to resolve conflict, adapt to changing situations and develop creative and innovative ways to resolve issues
· Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
· Must have a valid Albert
