Family Support Specialist, Healthy Families

• The Family Support Specialist (FSS) is responsible for initiating and maintaining regular and long-term (up to three or five years) contact and support with families. This activity will occur primarily within the family’s home; each visit should last for at least one hour. Virtual visits may take place as needed.  

• The interventions should be family-centered, strength-based, and directed at establishing a trusting relationship; strengthening the parent-child relationship; promoting healthy childhood growth and development; and enhancing family well-being by reducing risk and building protective factors. 

• The person filling this position is expected, under close supervision, to: (1) provide support to individuals and/or families requiring social service assistance; (2) assess applicants for services and develop service plans and goals with client input; (3) provide referrals to community resources for participants; (4) Create and maintain participant files, (5) provide all required information for weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual reports. 

• Bachelor’s degree in human services, Social Work, Early Education, Child Development or directly related field. 

• Or High school diploma and a minimum of 1 year of experience in working with or providing services to children and their families, and/or providing community outreach to underserved communities. 

• The FSS must have good communication and writing skills and knowledgeable of community resources to offer referrals to the appropriate community-based agencies, depending on the family’s needs.

• experience and humility to work with culturally diverse families   

• knowledge of infant and child development   

• open to reflective supervision 

• Bi-lingual English and Haitian Kreyol strongly preferred 

Compensation: $42,853 annually
