About the Role

Blue Man Group, part of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Stage Manager (ASM) for the 2026 A New Holiday Surprise Touring production.

The Assistant Stage Manager supports the Production Stage Manager and Stage Management department in ensuring the smooth daily operation of the show, both on and off stage. This includes calling performances, managing backstage operations, assisting with props and consumables, load-ins, loadouts, and press or promotional events. The ASM serves as the show caller when the PSM is off, contributing to the consistency, safety, and quality of every performance.

Key Responsibilities

Show Operations & Calling
  • Serve as first book cover, calling performances as assigned based on schedule and company needs.
  • When calling, chair daily Circle Meetings, conduct soundcheck, review notes from the previous performance, and coordinate with performers and the technical departments to ensure all outstanding notes from the prior show have been addressed.
  • When the Production Stage Manager is not present, act as the leader in the space, maintaining communication, morale, and show integrity across departments.
  • When calling, attend post-show notes sessions, facilitate communication, and complete show reports for review by the Production Stage Manager.
  • Manage the deck during performances and maintain prop presets, running tracks, and daily or weekly prop maintenance.
  • Conduct front-of-house briefings and communicate relevant show information to venue staff as needed.

Touring & Technical Support
  • Assist the Production Stage Manager with load-ins and loadouts, helping to set up and strike the stage, props world, and instruments.
  • During load-ins, unpack and organize instruments and consumables; during loadouts, assist with striking and packing props, FX, and instruments.
  • Support the Stage Management team with loading and organizing the Stage Management trailer.
  • Assist with preparing and maintaining props for press appearances, promotional events, and off-site gigs, including serving as show caller for press calls when required.

Safety
  • Champion and enforce all Blue Man Group and CDSEG health and safety policies throughout all performances and backstage operations.
  • Ensure Stage Management compliance with safety, emergency, and hazard protocols in coordination with the Production Stage Manager and Production Manager.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture that prioritizes the well-being of performers, crew, and audience members.

Key Attributes
  • Proactive and resourceful, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Calm, confident, and professional under pressure.
  • Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Impeccable organizational ability and attention to detail.
  • Flexible, collaborative, and adaptable in a fast-paced touring environment.
  • Demonstrates initiative, follow-through, and a strong sense of urgency.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in Stage Management, Performing Arts, or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of professional Stage Management experience in live entertainment or touring productions.
  • Proven ability to call live performances and manage cue-heavy shows.
  • Experience with props, consumables, and backstage operations.
  • Proficiency in scheduling, documentation, and Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to travel domestically for extended periods (Nov 2026–dec 2026) and maintain eligibility for U.S. employment and travel.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt touring contract offering a competitive salary commensurate with experience, plus benefits during active tour periods.
