This role oversees trade compliance and governance, emphasizing export controls, regulatory licensing, customs, sanctions screening, and Incoterms. This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports that acts as the primary subject matter expert for complex cross-border movements, regulatory interpretation, and interaction with customs authorities, ensuring compliant and continuous global business operations. Core Responsibilities Regulatory Licensing & Export Controls * Manage export licensing processes for regulated chemicals and treated seeds, including collection of forecasts, submission of license applications, and reconciliation of reported versus actual exported volumes. * Interpret and monitor regulatory frameworks such as the Rotterdam Convention and EU export control and dual-use regulations. * Coordinate license creation, maintenance, and validation across multiple countries and legal entities. Customs Compliance & Audit Management * Serve as the primary point of contact for customs authorities during audits and investigations, including representing designated legal entities under power of attorney. * Lead responses to customs inquiries related to valuation, transfer pricing, treatment declarations, and historical export data. * Manage special customs regimes, including return of previously exported goods, ensuring proper regime codes, documentation, and evidence are prepared and submitted. Sanctions & Restricted Party Screening * Own the screening process for customers, vendors, consignees, and internal entities against sanctions and restricted party lists. * Provide guidance on shipments to sensitive or high-risk destinations, including escalation to legal and cross-functional teams when required. * Educate operational teams on sanctions risks and approval requirements, reinforcing due diligence practices. Incoterms & Trade Policy Governance * Enforce corporate Incoterms policy and review requests for deviations, including documenting approvals and rationale. * Identify improper Incoterm usage and lead corrective education efforts with logistics, procurement, and regional teams. * Support internal audits by addressing Incoterm-related findings and driving consistent application across operations. Process Documentation & Knowledge Transfer * Develop and maintain documented procedures, step-by-step guides, and training materials for licensing, customs regimes, and trade compliance workflows. * Support transition or spin-off activities by preparing documentation Key Stakeholders & Collaboration * Collaborate closely with regional logistics and supply chain teams, customs brokers, and country operations. * Partner with Legal, Finance, Procurement, R&D, and Customer Service to resolve trade compliance issues and policy questions. * Participate as an active member of cross-functional compliance and sanctions governance forums led by Legal. Location Flexible within Europe; preference for proximity to a Corteva seed production site (Aussone, France; Afumati, Romania; Sissa Trecasali, Italy; Parndorf, Austria; Szarvas, Hungary). Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, International Trade, Business, Logistics, Finance, Law, or related field * At least 10 years of experience in customs regulations, export controls, sanctions, and international trade compliance frameworks. * Strong understanding of Incoterms and their operational, financial, and risk implications. Critical Skills & Capabilities * Ability to interpret evolving regulations and assess impact on business activities * Risk-based decision-making and sound business judgment * Strong cross-functional leadership and influence in a matrixed organization * Ability to operate effectively in ambiguity and build structure where needed * Strong communication skills with ability to translate complex regulations into practical guidance * Confidence interacting with government authorities and representing the company in sensitive compliance matters. * Comfort operating without full system automation, relying on documented processes, judgment, and follow-up controls.
