You are a proud Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person who is passionate about Caring for Country and creating positive outcomes for community and the environment.

You will bring:

  • Demonstrated experience engaging and building trusted relationships with Aboriginal communities, organisations, and stakeholders.
  • A demonstrated understanding of environmental biosecurity and conservation issues faced by community working on Country
  • Strong communication and consultation skills, with the ability to work respectfully across diverse groups and represent community perspectives.
  • Experience coordinating projects, programs, or community engagement initiatives and delivering outcomes within agreed timeframes.
  • An understanding of Aboriginal cultural knowledge, values, and connections to Country, and the ability to apply culturally safe engagement practices.
  • Well-developed stakeholder management skills, with experience building partnerships and working collaboratively across organisations.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, presentations, briefing notes, and correspondence.
  • The ability to balance community, cultural, and organisational priorities while navigating complex and sensitive issues.
  • A proactive, adaptable, and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a supportive team.

  • This is an Aboriginal Identified role under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Applicants must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and be accepted by their community as such.
  • A current NSW motor vehicle licence.

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) works to protect the state’s environment and heritage. It leads the way on climate change, driving the sustainable transition to a net zero economy, powered by affordable, reliable, and clean energy.

DCCEEW conserves and protects the state’s natural environment. It manages the NSW national park estate, including its rich and diverse biodiversity and Aboriginal cultural heritage for future generations.

DCCEEW also ensures sustainable management of water resources across the state, to support the environment, communities and industry.

We acknowledge the ongoing custodial responsibilities of the Aboriginal peoples of NSW to care for Country and water and are committed to establishing meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal peoples in the management of the environment.
