The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) is seeking to establish a Talent Pool for Senior Project Officer (Programs) opportunities. This talent pool will be used to fill future Environment Officer Grade 9 vacancies that may arise over the next 18 months.

Candidates who are successful through this process may be considered for upcoming opportunities across a range of exciting and impactful program areas. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to projects and programs that support biodiversity conservation, environmental stewardship and positive outcomes for communities and ecosystems across New South Wales.

These roles lead and deliver projects, programs and operational initiatives that support biodiversity conservation, private land conservation and strategic offset outcomes across NSW. Working within a collaborative and purpose-driven team, you will contribute to the design, implementation, coordination and continuous improvement of programs and enabling activities within the Programs Branch. This is an opportunity to work on some of the BCT's most important and innovative programs, helping to protect biodiversity, support landholders and shape the future of conservation on private land in NSW.

Depending on the team in which the role is embedded, this may include work across private land conservation, biodiversity offsets, agreement delivery, biodiversity education, data and science, customer service or related operational priorities. You will analyse policy, program, technical and operational information, engage with diverse stakeholders, and provide high-quality advice to support strategic decision-making and practical delivery.

Whether you are leading strategic projects, improving the way we deliver our programs, or helping generate the data and insights that guide future investment, your work will contribute to lasting conservation outcomes.

• Demonstrated experience delivering complex projects, programs, policy or operational initiatives within government, environmental, natural resource management or related sectors.
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, monitor risks, track milestones and deliver outcomes within agreed timeframes.
• Proven ability to analyse data, legislation, policy, technical information and stakeholder feedback to develop practical, evidence-based recommendations.
• Knowledge of biodiversity conservation, private land conservation, environmental program delivery or related policy and operational frameworks would be highly regarded.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to collaborate, influence and negotiate across diverse groups.
• Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare briefings, reports, submissions and executive correspondence for a range of audiences.
• A proactive and adaptable approach, with sound judgement, strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to continuous improvement.
• A collaborative team player who demonstrates integrity, professionalism and a commitment to delivering quality outcomes for customers, stakeholders and the environment.

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) works to protect the state’s environment and heritage. It leads the way on climate change, driving the sustainable transition to a net zero economy, powered by affordable, reliable, and clean energy.

The New South Wales Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) is a not-for-profit statutory body, established under Part 10 of the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and managed by a Board appointed by the Minister for the Environment.

The Trust’s roles are to support and encourage landholders to enter into agreements to conserve and protect biodiversity on private land, guided by the government’s Biodiversity Conservation Investment Strategy; secure biodiversity offsets when developers choose to pay into the Biodiversity Conservation Fund; and other activities that promote greater awareness of, appreciation and understanding of, biodiversity and the importance of conserving it.

We acknowledge the ongoing custodial responsibilities of the Aboriginal peoples of NSW to care for Country and are committed to establishing meaningful partnerships with Aboriginal peoples in the management of the environment.

The successful applicant for this role will be required to declare any conflict of interests related to the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme, as defined in the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme Conflict of Interests Protocol. This ensures the department is made aware of potential conflicts of interest so they can be appropriately managed.

Where an applicant has a high-risk “defined interest” in the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme, they may be required to divest this interest before being employed by the department.

The BCT also has restrictions on staff participation in its funded PLC programs. No additional funding, beyond that already agreed to by the BCT, may be sought or approved during time as a BCT employee or for a 12-month period following termination of employment.
