CSSD Technician - Open to Caymanians and those without immigration restrictions only.
Primary Role:
Doctors Hospital is a multidisciplinary health care facility provides support for a wide variety of Surgical and Medical specialties. A CSSD Technician works under the direct supervision of the OR Clinical Coordinator. The CSSD Technician responsibilities include retrieving contaminated supplies and delivering sterile supplies, maintaining inventory and preparing sterile instrument trays for surgeries, examinations and procedures. You should have a good working knowledge of a variety of sterilization techniques and be able to work with fragile equipment. The CSSD Technician works to prepare, sterilize, install, assemble or clean all healthcare equipment required for surgeries, examinations and medical procedures. Also ensuring equipment, instruments and supplies can be reused safely to prevent infection.
General Responsibilities:
• Remain current in decontamination sterilization, packaging, and distribution of instrumentation and supplies.
• Reprocess endoscopes
• Operate the following equipment:
• Ultrasonic washer/dryer
• Plasma sterilizer
• Water distiller
• Washer/decontamination unit
• Steam sterilizers
• Instrument marker
• Monitor efficiency of sterilizer and log
• Perform biological testing
• Knowledge of and performance in cold sterilization
• Identification of surgical instrumentation by proper name and appropriate sterilization method
• Preparation of surgical goods and instrumentation for sterilization
• Maintains appropriate rotation of sterile supplies
• Appropriately identify each sterilizer load and maintain record of each
• Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the department
• Practice safe handling of patient care items that have been exposed to blood and/or body fluid
• Report broken or malfunctioning equipment to OR Clinical Coordinator
• Observe safe working habits
• Participate in in-service education and department meetings
• Abide by hospital policies and procedures
• Assist with the creation or revision of policies and procedures
• Maintain patient confidentiality
• Perform related work as required
• Stock ordering and inventory
Qualifications
This position and core competencies require applicants to have:
• Recognized certification in sterile processing and distribution or associate degree in sterilization /decontamination.
• Minimum of five (5) years recent/relevant CSSD hospital experience, with knowledge of cleaning, disinfection and sterilization techniques, instrument care and understanding of infection control standards and sterilization.
• Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions.
• Requires ability to work in fast paced environment.
• Requires flexibility and team work approach.
• Requires positive personality and consistent interpersonal skills
• Requires professional dress and appearance.
• Requires strict confidentiality and ethics.
• Ability to work proactively and autonomously.
• Must be able to lift, stand and stoop without physical restriction
• Certificate 111 in Sterilization Services or similar is preferred or willingness to work towards achieving the certificate.
