PIM: Associate Principal

Edge Growth Ventures manages one of South Africa's leading Impact Funds, backing high-growth, early-stage businesses that create meaningful employment and economic inclusion across the country. We invest in exceptional founders and support them with capital, expertise and networks to scale. We are looking for an Associate Principal or Principal to take PM Lead ownership of a dynamic portfolio of impact investments. You will be the primary point of accountability for a set of investee companies (from deal handover through to exit) driving value creation, governance best practice and strategic growth support across the portfolio. This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who thrives at the intersection of financial rigour and entrepreneurial energy. What You'll Do Portfolio Management • Assume full accountability for allocated investee companies from deal team handover through to exit. • Deliver value-added support to portfolio companies: financial modelling, strategy development, execution management, business building, access to new markets and capital raising. • Oversee and manage the full active portfolio with a principal-level lens. • Own, prepare and critically review follow-on funding requests and IC presentations i.e assessing rationale, structure, timing and mandate fit. • Drive portfolio scorecard performance; prepare consolidated review reports and dashboards. • Lead special projects to unlock value through restructures, turnarounds and new market entry. • Ensure financial reporting, systems and processes of investees meet required standards. Governance & Compliance • Ensure best-practice governance at both investee and Fund level. • Manage investee non-compliance; recommend enforcement or rectification measures. • Oversee legal resources for PM-related legal amendments across the portfolio. • Assist with all monitoring and compliance deliverables. Growth Support & Stakeholder Engagement • Provide strategic oversight of all Growth Support initiatives across the portfolio. • Represent the Fund Manager in stakeholder engagements; present portfolio updates to relevant parties. • Develop and maintain PM lessons-learnt databases; present insights to stakeholders. Operations & Process Improvement • Drive improvements to internal processes, procedures and policies that enhance portfolio management delivery within the Fund. • Maintain portfolio-related information databases and reporting infrastructure. Requirements Experience • 5+ years in Impact Investing or Venture Capital — preferably in a post-investment / portfolio management role. • Or 5+ years in Audit, Private Equity or a closely related field with strong exposure to financial analysis, deal structuring or investor reporting. Qualifications • South African citizen • CA (SA) — preferred. • FCMA or CFA — accepted as an alternative. • Postgraduate degree in Engineering, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Finance, Business Science or BSc with a finance underpinning. Skills & Attributes • Analytically sharp with a builder's instinct. • Equally comfortable in the boardroom and working directly with founders. • Driven by purpose, you want your work to create lasting economic impact. • Highly accountable, ownership-oriented and solutions-focused. • Excellent communicator, fluent in both numbers and narrative.
