Staff Backend Engineer (Security)

We’re looking for a Staff Software Engineer to help shape the backend foundation of Intego, one of the flagship products within Kape’s Security Division alongside ExpressVPN. This is a high-impact opportunity to influence the architecture, scalability, and technical direction of a product trusted by thousands of users and positioned for significant expansion in both scale and feature depth.

As part of a collaborative and experienced engineering team, you’ll play a key role in driving platform modernisation, improving system reliability, and enabling faster product innovation. You’ll also benefit from a structured onboarding experience with a progressive handover of backend ownership across both Intego ONE and the established legacy platform — paving the way for high autonomy, technical leadership, and meaningful impact within a business actively investing in its security portfolio.

Today, Intego is undergoing a major platform transformation through Intego ONE — a modern security suite that brings together antivirus, firewall, VPN, and performance optimisation into one seamless experience. Alongside the evolution of the product itself, the company is modernising its web platform, subscription ecosystem, customer experience, and backend services to support the next stage of growth.

• Build server-side technologies to support new features of Intego ONE
• Maintain and evolve existing backend technologies serving Intego ONE
• Provide internal tools for customer support to investigate and resolve issues reported by customers
• Maintain and ensure the technical level of backend services supporting our legacy product, still actively used by thousands of users

• Solid experience with PHP and the Laravel framework
• Strong knowledge of payment processors, including setup and webhook integrations for FastSpring Classic/Contextual, 2Checkout, and Stripe. 
• Proficiency with MySQL in production environments
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS
• Ability to build and maintain reliable, scalable backend services
• Strong communication skills for internal tooling and support collaboration

• Knowledge of or interest in Swift

• At the moment, we do not sponsor visas in the EU. For Hong Kong, we require at least two years of working experience and a university degree in a related field. For Singapore and the UK, we can only sponsor visas for mid-career or above.
