About The Role:
This position is located at the Columbus, MS Global Cellulose Fibers mill. As one of the largest softwood pulp producers in the world, this location produces bleached softwood pulp for use in paper and specialty products such as absorbent personal care products, pharmaceuticals and photographic-based papers.
The Power & Recovery Business Unit Manager is a key leadership role for Columbus Mill.
The person in this role is the leader of the power & recovery organization at a fully integrated pulp and paper mill.
This position is a Lead Team position and reports directly to the Columbus Mill Operations Manager.
The Power & Recovery Unit equipment consists of boilers, evaporator, recaust, turbines, water systems, waste treatment
This position is accountable for safety, engagement, people development and manufacturing excellence for all facets of the Power & Recovery department.
Key Accountabilities
Display safety leadership above all things and at all times and ensure environmental compliance systems are reliable and accurate.
Lead all activities of the Columbus Mill’s Power & Recovery Department.
Set expectations and direction and manage safety, environmental, quality, reliability, and productivity efforts of the team members.
Maintain focus on product and process quality.
Strive to establish and achieve challenging budgets to deliver year over year savings. Gain maximum value for the dollars invested. Be an active member and leader of mill cost reduction team initiatives.
Ensure a safe and highly motivated workforce by providing leadership in safety, work systems, and positive member relations. Support broad based participation in the mill’s safety process.
Develop and coach managers to provide outstanding leadership for their teams.
Direction of technical resources and process experts who support the business unit.
Work effectively in a manufacturing systems based environment with a strong commitment to reliability and the use of Manufacturing Excellence tools and work systems to ensure sustainability and predictability of results. Systems include but are not limited to operating procedures, trouble-cause-correction documents, key performance indicators, meeting scripts, SAP maintenance plans, etc.
Ensure crew skill development is a healthy and active process.
Demonstrate a proactive approach to operations by working with other business units to balance operations for the good of the mill
Maintain a focus on developing a strong reliability culture where a clear partnership exists between operations and maintenance and engineering
About You: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in Pulp / Paper with at least five (5) years of management experience is required.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Power/Recovery
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other related field is required.
Thorough knowledge of fiberline equipment and systems.
Demonstrated record of safety and environmental commitment and results. Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate to groups and individuals at all levels.
Strong commitment to reliability and to the use of Manufacturing Excellence tools/work systems to ensure sustainability of progress. Demonstrated leadership focused on accountability and results.
