Context

IOM Ecuador is a key partner in supporting the Government of Ecuador and regional actors in addressing migration challenges and opportunities in the country. As part of the International Organization for Migration’s global mission, IOM Ecuador focuses on providing comprehensive assistance to migrants, refugees, and host communities through protection, integration, and durable solutions. Aligned with its 2022 - 2026 strategy, IOM Ecuador emphasizes sustainable, community-based interventions and strong coordination with local governments and stakeholders to promote inclusive development and uphold the rights and dignity of all migrants. 

Under the overall supervision of the Field Coordinator, and direct supervision of the Local Field Coordinator, the Project Assistant (Field Operations) is responsible for undertaking the following duties and responsibilities:
 

1.    Provide general/clerical assistance in the implementation of project activities. 
2.    Retrieve, compile, summarize, and present information/data on specific project topics.
3.    Assist in monitoring budget and updating budget related information.   
4.    Support administrative coordination for project implementation, involving liaison with diverse organizational units or external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, process, and follow-up on administrative actions. 
5.    Draft status reports, correspondence, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations,
and other forms of documentation.
6.    Support the organization of meetings, workshops and training sessions. 
7.    Respond to general information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records.
8.    Drive the official IOM vehicles as needed, and as requested by the supervisor and/or the office manager. 
9.    Perform other related duties as assigned.
 

Education
  • School diploma with three years of relevant experience; or,
  • Bachelor's degree in political or social sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law or related fields from an accredited academic institution with one year of relevant professional experience.
  • Valid national driver´s licence
     
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
 
Experience

•    Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations;
•    Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
•    Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.

Skills
  • Good computer skills, including Word, Excel, and Internet.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • General knowledge of basic administrative and logistical procedures in support of field activities.
  • Familiarity with information collection tools and with providing guidance to migrants, refugees, and host communities.
  • Basic understanding of the local context and of humanitarian assistance principles under the Organization’s mandate.
  • knowledge of driver´s rules and regulations, basic vehicle maintenance and radio communications.
Languages
  • For this position, fluency in Spanish is required (oral and written).
IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
