The Wellbeing Coordinator is a middle leadership role with responsibility across Primary/Pre-Primary  for pastoral care, student wellbeing, safeguarding, and child protection. The post-holder leads the strategic development and daily implementation of systems that support students’ emotional, social, and personal development, while promoting a positive, inclusive school climate aligned with the school’s values. Working closely with the Head of School, Primary Principal, and Learning Support Coordinator, the Wellbeing Coordinator play a key role in ensuring that every student feels safe, supported, and able to flourish academically and personally. The mission of this role is to cultivate an environment where every student doesn’t just "cope," but actively flourishes, feels psychologically safe, and builds the emotional resilience necessary for lifelong success.


Responsibilities:


Student Wellbeing


  • Oversee and develop the programme of Wellbeing (PEEC)  across Primary and Pre-Primary Years . This will include monitoring the delivery of the programmes, liaising with homeroom teachers in primary and pre-primary  school and reporting to the Primary  Principal on these matters.
  • Develop and oversee a comprehensive wellbeing strategy based on evidence-based models (e.g., PERMAH framework).
  • Design and lead the delivery of proactive wellbeing workshops and lessons focusing on:
    • Character Strengths: Helping students identify and leverage their innate talents.
    • Mindfulness & Regulation: Teaching practical tools for stress management and emotional regulation
    • Growth Mindset: Encouraging persistence and a positive orientation toward challenge.
    • Gratitude & Altruism: Implementing practices that boost collective happiness, social connection and friendship
  • Foster a culture of "Psychological Safety" where students feel empowered to take risks, share ideas, and express vulnerability without fear of judgment.
  • Advocate for wellbeing as a core pillar of the school's identity, ensuring it is integrated into the academic curriculum, not just treated as an "add-on."
  • Monitor student wellbeing across the school and refer any students to Learning Support who are in need of additional support or interventions.
  • Deliver assemblies or organise special events to develop wellbeing in the student community.
  • Develop, implement, and review a coherent Wellbeing activities that support student flourishing
  • Support students facing anxiety or social and family-related difficulties
  • Refer students to Learning Support, school psychologists, special educators, or external agencies as appropriate
  • Deliver assemblies and coordinate wellbeing-focused events and initiatives
  • Act as a high-profile mentor for students, providing "Positive Intervention" strategies for individuals or small groups.
  • Work alongside the counseling team to bridge the gap between clinical support and universal preventative wellbeing education.
  • Lead student-led "Wellbeing Ambassador" programs to ensure the student voice is at the heart of the school's climate.


Safeguarding, Wellbeing & Child Protection

  • Lead and manage issues related to student wellbeing, safeguarding, and child protection, in line with school policy and international best practice
  • Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead in the phase
  • Respond promptly to critical incidents involving students, including emotional distress or safeguarding concerns 
  • Conduct investigations where required and make recommendations for consequential actions or sanctions
  • Promote a strong safeguarding culture across the school
  • Oversee the My Concern safeguarding reporting platform for children in their phase
  • Investigate and take action on cases of child protection and wellbeing
  • Liaise with the Welfare Department, police and any other external authorities related to children protection and safeguarding


Collaboration & Partnerships

  • Work closely with teachers, school psychologists, special educators, Learning Support colleagues, and leadership teams to provide holistic student support
  • Foster strong, professional partnerships with parents, encouraging open communication and shared responsibility for student wellbeing
  • Liaise with relevant external agencies (e.g. welfare services, police, private organisations) to support student wellbeing

Staff Training & Development

  • Deliver Professional Development to colleagues on how to embed positive psychology within their own classrooms and manage their own professional flourishing.
  • Promote the use of positive psychology, restorative practices, and inclusive approaches

Policy Development & Compliance

  • Lead and contribute to the development, implementation, and review of policies related to:

    • Student wellbeing and support


  • Ensure policies reflect international best practice and the school’s values

Record Keeping & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate, confidential records relating to:
    • Student wellbeing and safeguarding concerns

Community Engagement & School Ethos

  • Lead and support wellbeing campaigns, anti-bullying initiatives, and peer mentoring programmes
  • Promote inclusion, belonging, and student voice
  • Facilitate parent webinars and workshops to align home and school environments in supporting student mental health and wellbeing
  • Act as a visible role model for the Island Private School’s values, mission, and vision



Requirements:

Person Specification



  • Education (Essential): Degree in Education or Psychology, or experience in pastoral care and wellbeing work in schools
  • Education (Desirable): Postgraduate qualification in Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP)
  • Experience (Essential): 3+ years of teaching or school leadership
  • Experience (Desirable): Experience in curriculum design or “whole school” change management
  • Knowledge (Essential): Deep understanding of Positive Psychology (including key figures such as Martin Seligman, Carol Dweck, and Barbara Fredrickson)
  • Knowledge (Desirable): Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Practice and Restorative Justice
  • Attributes (Essential): Exceptional empathy, high emotional intelligence (EQ), and a “warm-demanding” presence
  • Attributes (Essential): Creative thinker with the ability to inspire children, teens, and adults

Working hours: 


Monday to Friday 8:00 - 18:00 (max 8 hours per day)
