Team & Culture

With a strong foundation in the construction industry, the successful candidate will bring proven experience in the structure and framework of contracts and heavy civil construction methodologies. As the Estimating Manager, you will lead a team of estimators and play a key role in overseeing the preparation of proposals and tenders for a range of heavy civil projects throughout British Columbia.

This is a leadership opportunity for an experienced Estimator who is ready to take ownership of the Estimating function. You will manage day-to-day estimating activities, provide mentorship and direction to team members, and take initiative on smaller bids while guiding strategy on larger pursuits.

An excellent communicator and collaborative leader, you will work closely with clients, site teams, and office staff to align estimating efforts with project requirements and business goals. As an integral part of the Business Development department, you will thrive in a dynamic environment - managing multiple priorities, adapting to shifting workloads, and delivering results in a fast-paced industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of quantity takeoffs by reviewing and interpreting drawings and specifications.
  • Manage the full proposal process from start to finish — including scope reviews, risk assessment, costing, and ensuring proposal compliance.
  • Develop and oversee construction schedules and methodologies aligned with project requirements.
  • Work closely with the Proposal Team and the Director of Estimating (direct reporting line) to ensure seamless coordination and alignment on deliverables
  • Understand and apply various contract models commonly used in heavy civil construction.
  • Interpret and assess contract terms and conditions.
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of heavy civil construction processes - particularly earthworks and concrete in remote or challenging environments.
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities and evolving project demands.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a small team while also contributing independently to estimating efforts.
  • Take initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement, process efficiency, and team development.
  • Manage multiple estimates and competing deadlines effectively, maintaining high-quality deliverables.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in heavy civil construction estimating, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.
  • Proven experience managing the complete proposal and estimating cycle, from initial tender through final executive review.
  • Proficient with construction estimating software (e.g. HeavyBid, Bluebeam or similar).
  • Field experience and/or a technical diploma or degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related discipline is an asset.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with ASTTBC or EGBC is considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to lead, delegate, and support a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite - particularly Excel, Word, and Project.
  • Demonstrated strength in managing change, resolving challenges, and maintaining focus under pressure.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
