We are looking for a Magnetics Design Engineer to lead the development of custom magnetic components for high-frequency power converters used in electric vehicle applications. This role requires full lifecycle ownership from specification through design, prototyping, validation, and transition to high-volume manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in magnetics design, a solid grasp of power electronics converter architecture, and hands-on experience optimizing inductors and transformers for performance and manufacturability. Strong collaboration with cross-functional teams and familiarity with design for manufacturing, WCCA, and DFMEA are essential.
The Role: Analysis and design trade-off studies of magnetics in the power converters.
- Work closely with power electronics and mechanical to develop magnetics design for power converter (inductor, transformer).
- Start to finish ownership of magnetic components – from specification to design, prototype, testing, validation, and high-volume manufacturing.
- Work with manufacturing team to ensure efficient and high-yield production of the power converter.
Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of power electronics converters and magnetics design for high frequency applications.
- Hands-on hardware experience in custom magnetics design for power electronics.
- Good understanding of power conversion topologies and control strategies, switching device characteristics and losses, gate driving circuit design, magnetics, capacitors etc.
- Experience in PCB layout.
- Proficiency with lab equipment (Oscilloscopes, Network analyzers, Signal Generators etc.)
- Experience with Design for Manufacturing, WCCA and DFMEA
Advantageous:
- Familiar with magnetics simulation tools (Ansys)
- Familiar with schematic capture and circuit simulation tools
- Familiar with electromagnetic compatibility
- Familiar with environmental, reliability, and safety requirements for automotive applications
- Experience in planar magnetics/OCB winding design is a plus
Education Requirements:
- BS/MS degree in Electrical Engineering. PhD preferred.
