Main Purpose of Job

An Activity Therapy Associate I is the entry level of activity therapy support work at Maryland Department of Health (MDH) designated Court Involved (CI) Facilities, assisting in the implementation of the prescribed activity therapy programs and patient/client assessments for mentally ill, aged or physically ill or physically disabled patients or developmentally disabled clients who are residents of State treatment facilities or community based programs. Employees in this classification do not supervise, but may provide advice and guidance to direct care staff, students and volunteers.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Two years of experience assisting in the implementation\r\nof prescribed activity therapy programs under the supervision of a healthcare\r\nprofessional to include assisting in patient/client assessments for mentally\r\nill, aged, physically ill or physically disabled patients or developmentally\r\ndisabled clients.\r\n\r\n\r\nNotes:\r\n1.��Candidates may substitute\r\nthe completion of 60 credit hours from an�accredited college or\r\nuniversity, with at least 15 credit hours in�health services, human\r\nservices, education or the behavioral sciences�for the required\r\nexperience.\r\n\r\n\r\n2.\r\nCandidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service�experience as\r\na non-commissioned officer in Therapy��classifications or Therapy\r\nspecialty codes in the Therapeutic�Recreation field of work on a\r\nyear-for-year basis for the required�experience.\r\n\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

\r\nThe desired candidate should possess the following:\r\n\r\n\r\n Experience utilizing MS Office Suite (Excel, Word) and Google Workspace.\r\n Experience planning, designing, and implementing Recreational Therapy Groups.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

\r\n1. Employees in this classification\r\nmay be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees\r\nassigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s\r\nlicense valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n2. Employees in some positions in this\r\nclassification�may be required to operate vehicles which require a Class\r\n“C” motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n3. Employees in this classification\r\nmay be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of\r\ncardio-pulmonary resuscitation training.�\r\n4. Employees in this\r\nclassification�at facilities with a swimming pool may be required to\r\nobtain Red Cross instruction and certification in Life Saving and Water Safety\r\nprior to�appointment.\r\n\r\n\r\n
