Main Purpose of Job

These positions provide system and\r\nschool level leadership and statewide support for improving mathematics\r\ninstruction and student outcomes in Maryland and play critical role in\r\nadvancing the state's mathematics priorities, including those outlined in the\r\nMaryland PreK-12 Mathematics Policy and the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe Mathematics\r\nSchool Improvement Network Specialists\r\nsupport the design and delivery of the Mathematics School Improvement Network,\r\nwhich builds the capacity of school leadership teams to improve the quality of\r\nmath instruction and student outcomes in collaboration with district leaders,\r\nwith an intense focus on schools in improvement status. This work serves as a\r\nprimary lever to strengthen instructional practice and, ultimately, increase\r\nstudent learning. The role includes designing and delivering professional\r\nlearning and aligned coaching for school leadership teams, including\r\nadministrators, instructional/math coaches, and identified lead math teachers.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

Reports to the Assistant Director of\r\nMathematics Coaching and works in close collaboration with MSDE's Mathematics and Systems\r\nof Instructional Coherence Branch, MSDE Division of Instructional Programs\r\ncolleagues, LEA leaders, and external partners to ensure coherence, build\r\nshared ownership, and support improved mathematics outcomes for Maryland’s\r\nstudents.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Serves as a strategic partner to LEA\r\n leadership to support the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of\r\n Maryland’s Math School Improvement Network to support the state’s mathematics\r\n priorities.�\r\n Designs and delivers professional\r\n learning experiences and aligned leadership professional development for local\r\n school system leadership teams, administrators, instructional/math coaches, and\r\n identified math lead teachers to build the capacity to improve the quality of\r\n math instruction and student outcomes.\r\n Develops\r\n resources, tools, and aligned training materials to ensure statewide coherence\r\n in coaching models and expectations.\r\n Collaborates with district leadership\r\n teams to align professional learning, curriculum implementation, and coaching\r\n supports to evidence-based mathematics instructional practices.\r\n Facilitates and contributes to the\r\n development of local mathematics instruction implementation infrastructures\r\n using coaching frameworks, instructional walkthrough tools, and continuous\r\n improvement cycles.\r\n Reviews and provide feedback on LEA\r\n math plans, data reports, and implementation deliverables to ensure coherence\r\n with state priorities.\r\n Supports the\r\n Director of Mathematics and Assistant Director of Mathematics Coaching in managing key projects, preparing policy guidance, and organizing\r\n statewide mathematics events and convenings.�\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:� A Master’s\r\ndegree or the equivalent of 36 credit hours of�post-baccalaureate\r\ncoursework in mathematics, STEM, education or a related area from an accredited\r\ncollege or university.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience:�Four\r\nyears of administrative or teaching experience in or�affiliated with mathematics\r\nprograms in prekindergarten through 12 settings or related areas.�\r\n\r\n\r\nNotes:�\r\n�\r\n\r\n\r\n Candidates may\r\n substitute a Bachelor's Degree with 7 years of the specified content experience\r\n to satisfy the Minimum Qualifications noted above.\r\n Candidates may substitute the possession of a\r\n Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to\r\n the position option for one year of the required�experience.\r\n The required field of education and experience are\r\n unique for�each option and are established by MSDE in accordance\r\n with�Education Article, Section 2-104 of the Annotated Code\r\n of�Maryland.� The specific education and experience�qualifications\r\n for each position are on record in the Human Resource Management Branch of the\r\n Division of Business�Services.\r\n Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military\r\n service experience as a commissioned officer in Education Program\r\n classifications or Education Program specialty�codes in the Education\r\n field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and\r\n education.\r\n\r\n\r\n

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

One\r\nyear of teaching experience in a Kindergarten through 8th Grade Mathematics\r\nEducation Program.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to\r\napplicants�who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Please\r\ninclude clear and specific information on your application regarding�your\r\nqualifications.\r\n\r\n\r\n Experience\r\n with Kindergarten through 8th Grade mathematics programs and curriculum.\r\n Experience in teaching environments as an\r\n Instructional Coach, Mathematics Department Chair, or Administrator that\r\n supported Mathematics Instruction.�\r\n Experience aligning Instruction\r\n to Maryland College and Career Ready\r\n Standards and Frameworks for Mathematics and Knowledge of college and career readiness pathways,\r\n standards, trends, regulations, policies, and issues related to mathematics\r\n and STEM fields of study.\r\n Experience implementing,\r\n monitoring, evaluating, and providing high quality and service level-based\r\n support and technical assistance for education programs including professional\r\n learning aligned to research-based math instructional practices.\r\n Experience collaborating\r\n with diverse communities and organizations for the purpose of implementing\r\n programs and strategies. and developing and delivering research based and\r\n best-in-class professional development programs.\r\n \r\n\r\n\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants\r\nmust consent to State and FBI (CJIS) background check as a routine procedure\r\nfor all employees.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis\r\nposition requires travel throughout the State of Maryland and throughout\r\ndesignated Counties to support teachers within individual school(s) and oversee\r\nthe effective implementation of Mathematics initiatives.\r\n\r\n
