We are seeking passionate individuals for the role\r\nof Mental Health Professional Counselor Advanced, so come join our team\r\nand make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS!\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe Mental Health\r\nProfessional Counselor Advanced is the advanced level of professional counselor\r\nproviding expert clinical and therapeutic services in behavioral health to the\r\nmost clinically demanding of youth involved with the Department of Juvenile\r\nServices. “Clinically Demanding Youth” include youth who have been ejected from\r\ntreatment programs, youth who are profoundly disabled due to mental illness,\r\nand youth with complex behavioral health disorders. The professional counselor\r\nrepresents the Behavioral Health Unit in DJS operated facilities &\r\ncommunity offices by completing forensic and placement assessments,\r\nrecommending youth for services that will meet their needs, providing\r\nsupportive mental health services to identified youth, and mentoring lower-level\r\nprofessional counselors or interns.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nSome key\r\nresponsibilities of this position may include, but not be limited, to the following:\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Complete\r\n admissions interviews, psychosocial evaluations, and behavioral health\r\n assessments.��\r\n Provide\r\n supportive counseling and� facilitate\r\n psychoeducation groups.�\r\n Provide\r\n crisis services to include suicide risk assessments, debriefings, and service\r\n plans.�\r\n Provide\r\n consultation and serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team.�\r\n Maintain timely and accurate clinical\r\n documentation and reports in compliance with DJS, COMAR, and licensing\r\n standards.\r\n \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nImportant: The work schedule will be either\r\nSunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday, hours are 10:00 a.m. to\r\n6:30 p.m.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThis position requires emergency on-call coverage in a\r\nrotational schedule with other licensed/certified behavioral health clinicians. \r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Professional Counselors.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience: Two years of experience providing professional counseling to clients with mental health disorders by using assessment, evaluation, intervention, rehabilitation and treatment regimens.�\r\n\r\n\r\nNotes:�\r\n\r\n\r\n1. These requirements are established by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists. The Department of Budget and Management, Office of Personnel Services and Benefits does not have the authority to accept substitutions or equivalents.�\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service\r\nexperience as a commissioned officer in Mental or Behavioral Health Counseling\r\nclassifications or Mental or Behavioral Health Nursing and Specialist specialty\r\ncodes in the counseling field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required\r\nexperience.\r\n\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience providing gender-responsive and trauma-informed assessment and counseling services addressing the unique mental health and/or substance use needs of adolescent females within a residential juvenile justice or residential behavioral health setting.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience conducting psychosocial evaluations and behavioral health assessments with adolescent females.�\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience providing gender-responsive individual and group interventions that address areas that are relevant to many adolescent females, including self-worth, healthy relationships, trauma recovery, emotional wellness, body image, peer relationships, and life skills development.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience developing and implementing individualized treatment plans that incorporate gender-responsive principles.�\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience conducting suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and safety planning with youth populations.\r\n\r\n\r\nExperience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary treatment team environment.\r\n\r\n\r\nBilingual skills or experience working with culturally diverse populations.\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.01.05, candidates placed in this classification must be licensed by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n\r\n
