Main Purpose of Job
This position\r\nis a full performance level of technical work involving the installation,\r\nrepair and maintenance of radio transmitters, receivers, communication\r\nsub-systems, audio transport networks (microwave, Fiber optic & Il), voice\r\nlogging recorders and other related communication equipment, as well as\r\nperforming the same activities with speed control devices, in-car camera\r\nsystems and body worn cameras in accordance with Federal Communications\r\nCommission (FCC) regulations.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
Installation, removals, maintenance/repair of\r\nvehicle mobiles & handheld portable radios, facility communication\r\nconsoles, radio remote control units along with other technologies such as\r\nin-car cameras, speed control devices, in-car computer systems, and body worn\r\ncameras along with any auxiliary equipment associated to each of the above\r\nsystems.\r\n\r\nInstallation, removals, maintenance/repair of conventional base stations,\r\nconsolette transceivers, antenna & combiner systems, interoperability\r\nsubsystems, audio transport technology systems such as microwave, Tl/Ethernet,\r\nT1/DSO equipment and fiber optics located at remote tower sites and other\r\nagency facilities across the State along with any auxiliary equipment\r\nassociated to each of the above systems.\r\n\r\nPerform yearly routine maintenance, troubleshooting analysis, circuit\r\nalignments & measurements, programming updates to audio transport systems,\r\nradio transceivers, T1/Ethernet systems, conventional channel gateways (CCGWs)\r\nand NetGuardians located at remote tower sites and agency facilities.\r\n\r\nPerform NICE Voice Logger routine maintenance, troubleshooting analysis &\r\nrepair, installation connectivity to agency phone sets, interoperability radio\r\nsubsystems and Vesta 911 where applicable.\r\n�\r\nMaintains accurate inventory and maintenance\r\nrecords on all equipment in the technician's assigned service region. Orders\r\nand maintains a sufficient number of parts and supplies for the operation of\r\nthe multiple assigned radio shops. Maintains shop & remote tower site (both\r\nto internal and external areas site cleanliness through regular cleaning (Ex.\r\nDusting/mopping, trash & other items).\r\n\r\nPerform monthly routine generator checks and fuel inspections to generators and\r\nHVAC systems assigned to ESD at agency facilities and remote tower sites. Ensuring\r\nthat the appropriate amount of fuel exists at each site.\r\n\r\nMaintains the yearly certification accuracy of all electronic test equipment\r\nexists within the limits specified by the manufacturer and the FCC.\r\n\r\nPerforms periodic function tests with the Demstel Phone System locate at each\r\nfacility within the technician's service region.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an\r\naccredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\n�\r\nExperience: Five years of\r\nexperience in the repair of electronic communications equipment, four years\r\nmust have included the repair of two-way FM radios.\r\n�\r\n\r\nNotes:�\r\n\r\n1. Candidates may substitute the successful completion of a one-year program of\r\nstudy in radio electronics at a recognized training school, trade school, or\r\ncollege for up to one year of the required general experience.\r\n�\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Candidates may\r\nsubstitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned\r\nofficer in Electronics Technician (Communications) classifications or Signal\r\nCorps, Aerospace Maintenance, or Data/ Communications Maintenance specialty\r\ncodes in the aviation communications field of work on a year-for-year basis for\r\nthe required experience.\r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following\r\npreferred qualifications. It is important that you include clear and specific\r\ninformation on your application regarding your qualifications.\r\n�Preferred Qualifications:\r\n1.�Five years of\r\nexperience�(maintenance, repair and installation) with voice audio\r\ntransport circuits (DS0) dealing with microwave, fiber optics and�T1\r\nbackhaul systems.\r\n�\r\n2.�Experience�with\r\nP25, TDMA Land Mobile Radio.�\r\n
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Applicants for this classification may be required to\r\npossess either a Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone\r\nOperator license, a FCC Ship Radar Endorsement, a National Association of\r\nBusiness and Educational Radio certificate, or an Associated Public Safety\r\nCommunications Officer Incorporated certificate. If license or certificate is\r\nrequired, applicants must list their license or certificate number and\r\nexpiration date on the application.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which\r\nrequire the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties\r\nwill be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in\r\nthe State of Maryland.\r\n

Candidates for this classification may be given a medical examination to determine their ability to perform the duties of the job classification.\r\n\r\n
SELECTION PROCESS
Only candidates who meet the minimum\r\nqualifications will be considered for this classification. Successful candidates will be placed on the employment Eligible\r\nList categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED and QUALIFIED and remain\r\neligible for consideration for at least one year from the date of examination.\r\nThe list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees.\r\n
EXAMINATION PROCESS
The examination will consist of a rating of\r\nyour education, training and experience related to the requirements of the\r\nposition. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the\r\nrating may be based on your application. Report all experience and education\r\nthat is related to this position. Applicants may be given a physical\r\nexamination and will be subject to an interview, background investigation,\r\npolygraph examination and substance abuse testing.\r\n
