Salary and rank commensurate with education and experience
The Department of English at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for two full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) dual enrollment faculty positions (#712140 and #712150) at the rank of Lecturer. These are one-year temporary appointments. The contracts may be renewed annually, subject to available funding, demonstrated need, and satisfactory performance as assessed by annual evaluations. The start date for the appointments is August 1, 2026.
The successful candidates will teach sections of dual enrollment English at Rutherford County area high schools, as needed, to meet a full-time teaching workload. The sections will be offered as part of the normal high school course schedule. The successful candidates must communicate regularly with the high school administration, the Director of General Education for English, and the Department Chair at MTSU to coordinate planned course activities with the high school calendar.
Applicants must meet at least one of the following three-degree requirements:
1. Master of Arts in any of the following disciplines: English, English Literature, Linguistics, Rhetoric/Composition, Professional/Technical Writing
2. Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing
3. Master of Arts in a closely related field with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in classes with English, Linguistics, and/or Technical Writing prefixes.
Applicants must also have completed at least three (3) hours of graduate-level coursework focusing on writing pedagogy or demonstrate at least one (1) semester of experience teaching English at a university or college.
Applicants with the following will receive special consideration: a PhD in English, English Literature, Linguistics, Rhetoric/Composition, or Professional/Technical Writing; at least one semester of experience teaching dual-enrollment English classes.
