About The Role
Location: Vancouver, BC (Hybrid)

Reports to: CFO
The General Counsel will oversee and manage PayByPhone’s legal affairs across all jurisdictions, providing strategic legal guidance on business operations, corporate governance, commercial matters, compliance, and risk management. This individual will act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and take ownership of legal matters across the PayByPhone Group and its subsidiaries worldwide.
Reporting directly to the CFO, the General Counsel will partner closely with executive leadership, including the CFO, COO, CEO, and compliance teams, to support business growth, manage legal risk, and ensure regulatory compliance across global operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Acting as trusted advisor to business colleagues and leaders.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating various types of contracts: confidentiality agreements, commercial contracts, intellectual property agreements, government contracts, public procurement bids, supplier agreements, consumer disclosures and marketing materials.
- Maintaining and updating template documents.
- Undertaking varied corporate work such as preparing board minutes, maintaining corporate registers and preparing filings.
- Working on a diverse range of legal areas such as corporate, commercial, marketing and product.
- Managing commercial disputes and litigation matters, managing external counsel and legal budgets.
- Supporting product development initiatives with actionable and clear legal advice.
- Identifying regulations applicable to the operations of PayByPhone Group, develop and manage compliance programs where required; areas of compliance include privacy, consumer protection, anti-money laundering and payment licensing.
- Developing PayByPhone Legal team’s knowledge management resources, recordkeeping systems and processes for managing agreements.
Key Requirements
- Canadian qualified lawyer of 7+/- years Post-Qualification Experience.
- Experience of working in an in-house legal team.
- Proactive, organizational skills, detail-orientated with good communication skills and a keen and “can do” attitude.
- Ability to work in a team oriented, practical environment.
- Can manage a variety of assigned projects.
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and time management skills.
- A self-motivated and hard worker who can hit the ground running in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
What We Offer
Compensation: The expected salary range for this role is $200,000 – $250,000 CAD. Final compensation will be based on factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity.
Vacation: All permanent full-time employees start with 4 weeks of vacation per year.
