A fast-growing Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) is seeking a motivated and hands-on Field Operations Coordinator to oversee the daily physical operations of their network. This is an ideal role for a technical professional with 2+ years of experience looking to step into a leadership position within the telecommunications sector. The role focuses on the coordination of field technicians and subcontractors to ensure seamless customer installations, proactive tower maintenance, and rapid response to network outages. You will be responsible for the "on-the-ground" success of the business, ensuring that infrastructure is well-maintained and that expansion projects—such as new tower builds and site surveys - are executed efficiently. Standard working hours apply, though flexibility is required to coordinate emergency repairs or critical network maintenance outside of typical hours. Key Responsibilities: Field Team Coordination: Supervise daily workflows for installation and maintenance teams, ensuring tasks are completed safely, on time, and to company standards. Infrastructure Maintenance: Conduct and schedule regular inspections of towers, masts, and high sites, overseeing the upkeep of radios, antennas, and power systems (including solar and battery backups). Installation Quality Control: Monitor the quality of client installations and equipment upgrades, ensuring neatness, optimal signal strength, and professional customer handovers. Outage Response: Act as the first point of coordination during service interruptions, dispatching teams and managing resources to restore connectivity swiftly. Growth & Site Surveys: Support the expansion of the network footprint by assisting with site surveys for new towers and relay stations in emerging coverage areas. Project Assistance: Coordinate small-scale civil works, including foundation repairs, trenching, and equipment sheltering for new site builds. Safety & Compliance: Ensure all field staff strictly adhere to health and safety regulations, particularly regarding working-at-heights and electrical safety protocols. Requirements Relevant Experience: 2+ years of experience in wireless internet, telecommunications, electrical contracting, or field-based operations. Problem-Solving: Strong ability to diagnose technical issues and logistics hurdles in real-time, finding practical solutions to restore service or complete complex installations. Innovation & Improvement: A proactive mindset for identifying "better ways of doing things" - whether through improving toolkits, suggesting more durable mounting hardware, or streamlining field reporting processes. Technical Knowledge: Practical understanding of physical network components such as antennas, cabling, routers, and power systems. Emerging Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead small teams or coordinate subcontractors effectively. Organisational Skills: Competence in scheduling multiple teams across different locations while maintaining accurate stock and tool records. Licensing: A valid driver’s licence and a willingness to travel regularly between regional sites. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree/National Diploma in Information Technology or any related field. Basic knowledge of RF/Wireless networking equipment (e.g., MikroTik, Ubiquiti). Exposure to basic civil works or mast installations. Required Software Skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) Basic familiarity with network monitoring or ticketing systems Experience with task management apps (e.g., Trello or Monday.com) Benefits Career Progression: A clear pathway to a senior management role within a scaling telecommunications business. Skill Development: Gain hands-on experience in project management, civil works, and advanced wireless infrastructure. Impactful Role: Direct involvement in expanding high-speed internet access to new communities and businesses.
