Financial Accountant

A prominent professional services firm located in Parktown North is seeking a disciplined and autonomous Senior Financial Accountant to oversee their entire finance function. This role is designed for a hands-on professional who enjoys taking full ownership of financial operations, from daily processing to complex technical reporting. The successful candidate will be expected to manage the department with minimal oversight, ensuring that all financial data is precise, timely, and provides genuine commercial insight. This is an office-based position with standard business hours. Key Responsibilities Execute the full accounting cycle, including the accurate processing and maintenance of all financial records. Oversee accounts payable and receivable, ensuring efficient invoice management and ledger accuracy. Perform comprehensive monthly bank and cashbook reconciliations, resolving any outstanding items promptly. Prepare detailed monthly management accounts and supporting schedules for executive review. Provide analytical commentary on financial results, highlighting variances and performance trends. Compile complete Annual Financial Statements (AFS) using Draftworx, ensuring full compliance with IFRS. Manage all statutory compliance and SARS-related submissions, including VAT and PAYE. Lead the end-to-end annual audit process, including the preparation of audit files and direct liaison with external auditors. Identify opportunities for internal process improvements to enhance departmental efficiency. Contribute to the annual budgeting and forecasting cycles to support long-term strategic planning. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related financial field. Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience. At least 2 years of experience in a role managing the full financial function. In-depth working knowledge of IFRS and South African financial legislation. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data manipulation and reporting. Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage strict reporting deadlines. Comprehensive understanding of SARS regulations and compliance protocols. Preferred Qualifications Professional accounting designation (e.g., AGA(SA) or similar). Recent experience within a professional services or consulting environment.
