Job Summary The Dynamic Positioning Operator is responsible for the safe and precise manual and automatic control of the vessel's position and heading using the DP system. The role is critical during complex offshore operations, including but not limited to, offshore construction, diving support, cable-laying, ROV operations, and close proximity supply operations. The DPO reports directly to the Captain/Master and works closely with the bridge and deck teams. Key Responsibilities DP Operations & System Management: · Operate the vessel's Dynamic Positioning system to maintain position and heading within strict operational parameters during all phases of a project. · Conduct pre-operational checks and DP trials (FMEA/Annual trials) as required. · Continuously monitor the DP system's performance, including power management, thruster output, and environmental sensor data (wind, current, GPS). · Understand and manage the Consequence Analysis diagrams and operate within the vessel's capability limits for each specific activity. · Maintain a detailed and accurate DP logbook, recording all critical events, system set-ups, and environmental conditions. Safety & Compliance: · Maintain a constant navigational watch and act as a lookout when the DP system is engaged. · Strictly adhere to the company's Safety Management System (SMS), client-specific procedures, and the guidelines set out in the IMCA guidelines for DP operations. · Participate actively in safety drills and emergency procedures, particularly those related to DP station keeping loss (Drive-Off, Drift-Off). · Ensure full compliance with all Qatari maritime regulations and international standards. Bridge Team Collaboration: · Work seamlessly as part of the bridge team under the direction of the Captain. · Provide clear and concise communication to the Captain, deck crew, and client representatives regarding DP system status and operational readiness. · Assist the Captain with navigation, plotting, and general bridge duties when the DP system is not in use. Reporting & Administration: · Complete all required operational and safety reports accurately and on time. · Report any equipment malfunctions, deficiencies, or incidents to the Captain immediately. Requirements Job Requirements Certification: Valid Dynamic Positioning Operator (DPO) Certificate issued by a Nautical Institute (NI) accredited training center. Level: DPO Unlimited (preferred). Applications with DPO Limited or DPO Trainee logs will be considered for appropriate roles. Experience: Minimum 3 years of practical experience as a certified DPO on offshore vessels. Significant experience on AHTS (Anchor Handling Tug Supply) and/or PSV (Platform Supply Vessels) is highly desirable. Proven track record in operations common to Qatari offshore fields (e.g., platform supply, anchor handling, ROV support). Navigational Watchkeeping: Must hold a valid STCW certification as Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW) or higher (Chief Mate/Master Unlimited). Medical: Valid Seafarer’s Medical Fitness Certificate from an approved facility. Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of DP system principles, redundancy concepts, and failure mode analysis. Proficiency in operating ECDIS and RADAR/ARPA systems. Personal Skills: Exceptional situational awareness, concentration, and problem-solving abilities. Ability to remain calm and make decisive decisions under pressure. Fluency in English (written and verbal) is mandatory. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience working on vessels under long-term charter to QatarEnergy. Familiarity with major DP system brands (e.g., Kongsberg, L3 Harris, Rolls-Royce). Experience operating in the Arabian Gulf, with knowledge of specific environmental and navigational conditions. Valid GMDSS Certificate.
