About the Role

Techno is seeking a strategic and technically accomplished Vice President of Engineering Design to oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of multidisciplinary design programs across transportation, water, facilities, and public infrastructure projects.

This leadership role will guide design teams through every stage of project development while establishing technical standards, fostering collaboration, and ensuring successful delivery of complex engineering solutions. The ideal candidate is a seasoned engineering professional who thrives at the intersection of technical leadership, client engagement, and project execution.

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Direct engineering design efforts across multiple projects, ensuring deliverables meet quality expectations, project objectives, budgets, and schedules.
  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams consisting of civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and specialty engineering professionals.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, providing technical guidance and maintaining strong relationships throughout project development.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of plans, calculations, specifications, technical reports, and design packages.
  • Drive coordination among project stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of design disciplines and project requirements.
  • Establish and maintain quality assurance and quality control standards across all design activities.
  • Evaluate technical challenges, design constraints, and constructability considerations while guiding teams toward practical and innovative solutions.
  • Support business development initiatives through technical leadership, proposal contributions, client presentations, and pursuit strategy discussions.
  • Collaborate with project management teams to align engineering deliverables with overall project schedules and execution plans.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, agency requirements, regulatory criteria, and engineering best practices.
  • Mentor engineers and technical staff while supporting professional growth, knowledge sharing, and succession planning initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience leading engineering design efforts within consulting, infrastructure, transportation, or public works environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating complex design programs.
  • Strong understanding of engineering design processes, project delivery methods, and technical quality management.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, Revit, or related platforms.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Experience supporting major transportation, transit, water, wastewater, facilities, or heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Previous experience leading design teams in a consulting engineering environment.
  • Familiarity with public agency design standards and regulatory review processes.
  • Experience developing technical approaches for pursuits, proposals, and client interviews.

The expected salary range for this role in the New York City Metropolitan Area is $200,000 - $225,000 per year. The total compensation, including salary and bonuses, is determined by various factors such as experience, skill level, location, and qualifications, which are evaluated during the interview process
