Termination Technician
The First Electronics Corporation (FEC) specializes in the manufacture of over-molded, extra flexible, multi-conductor, fully EMI-shielded cable assemblies, harnesses and electro-mechanical assemblies custom built for military applications and harsh environments. FEC also produces electro-mechanical assemblies and systems for custom applications, all with no minimum quantity requirements. FEC is AS9100D and IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certified.
The First Electronics Corporation (FEC)’s wire and cable termination team is responsible for ensuring wire signals and the electrical integrity of wire performance meet the requirements of the customers’ designs and expectations. This position is responsible for wire preparation, insulation removal, pin crimping onto the end of an electrical wire conductor that will be inserted or soldered into a connector. Minimum vision (aided with magnification) requirements and an ability to understand and carry out work instructions and take supervisor instruction are also important in this role.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds. The employee must occasionally crouch, stoop, or reach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Wire measurement (SAE Standards)
- Wire insulation removal
- Use of a heat gun to flow solder, solder sleeves, and shrink heat shrink insulation
- Use of crimp tools to properly crimp pins on wire
- Checking for electrical conductivity with a low-voltage wire buzzer to make sure the prepared wire and contact show electrical continuity
- Removal or separation of metal shield bread on wire with a razor blade and a small pick to terminate the shield braid and expose the wire conductors underneath the shielding
- Tinning of wire
- Solder application to wire, contact pins and sockets, and terminal lugs
- Ability to understand numbers and letter symbols on a wiring diagram
- Good workmanship in accordance with IPC- 620 cable manufacturing
