Working closely with the Heritage Officer and Heritage Officer Trainee, this mentorship position reports to the Heritage Director and is responsible for assisting Heritage jëje-in with a variety of land-based heritage projects and initiatives, primarily focused on paleontological/archaeological fieldwork, site documentation, research and field-based oral histories.
The Field Assistant will also support with cultural camps, special events, and programmed activities at Dänojà Zho Culture Centre and various other Heritage sites, as necessary.
The incumbent will be an important addition to the Heritage Field Team, working alongside the Heritage Officer and Trainee to conduct land-based monitoring and protection of heritage resources, which will often involve accompanying Yukon Government Paleontologists, Archaeologists, and other field jëje-in and researchers during the summer season.
An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:
- TH citizen with an interest in pursuing an education or career related to archaeology, paleontology, heritage and cultural studies, museum studies, Indigenous studies, resource management, or related field.
- Knowledge of Tr’ondëk
Hwëch’in community, government structure, culture, heritage, traditions, and history.
- Good computer skills with ability to use Microsoft Office 365.
- Experience in hiking, working, and camping in remote settings.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and adhere to health and safety protocols.
- Ability to foster unity and trust among Tr’ondëk
Hwëch’in citizens and jëje-in.
- Ability to interact effectively with other personnel and agencies as required.
Conditions of Employment:
- Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector screening.
- Class 5 Driver’s License with clear driver abstract.
- Standard First Aid certification.
- Willingness to take Remote and/or Wilderness First Aid, ATV Safety, Possessions and Acquisition License, Boat Safety training, Class 4 license, as may be required.
- Must be willing to travel to and work in remote fieldwork and camp settings in a variety of conditions (rain, mud, sun, insects, etc.).
- Must be willing to participate in remote site field hiking.
- Willingness to work flexible hours to meet work commitments.
- Mandatory confidentiality is a condition of employment for all Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in personnel.
- TH101 Cultural Awareness training.
