Clinical Line, 10-month, Half- or Full-Time, Assistant Rank Faculty Position, PsyD Program

GSPP was created in 1976 to house one of the first Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) programs in the country, under the Vail (practitioner-scholar) training model. GSPP currently also offers four specialized master’s programs: Forensic Psychology, International Disaster Psychology: Trauma and Global Mental Health, Sport and Performance Psychology, and Sport Coaching, as well as online certificates and continuing education. GSPP also has a partially affiliated, APA-accredited internship consortium and several in-house and satellite psychology training clinics that serve Denver and the surrounding communities. As a professional school, GSPP promotes and utilizes high-level pedagogy that integrates applied practice, theory, research, and scholarship.

The psychology internship program was established at the University of Denver Counseling Center in 1984 and has been continuously accredited by the APA since 1990. The DU GSPP Internship Consortium consists of several sites in the Denver area, operating together under the direction of the Internship Consortium Director.

GSPP seeks to train students to provide culturally responsive services to clients and the community. Although more progress is continually needed, GSPP endeavors to create an accessible, affirming, and safe climate by actively engaging in the process of systemic transformation and responsive accountability.

The PsyD program at the Graduate School of Professional Psychology (GSPP) at the University of Denver (DU) seeks to hire multiple faculty for 10-month, benefited, clinical-track positions to begin as soon as possible, with a preference for November 1, 2026. While the preference is for full-time, half-time may be considered for the right candidate(s). This posting is for multiple positions. It is likely that one of the faculty hired through this search will take on an administrative role as Director of GSPP Internship Consortium.

The position includes teaching, scholarship, service, and clinical supervision duties. Teaching expectations for full-time clinical-track faculty are typically 27 credits over fall, winter, and spring quarters (13.5 credits for half time). Reductions to teaching load are possible based on administrative roles (see more detail below). This position will be expected to provide clinical supervision to first-year students conducting internal practicum through the Professional Psychology Clinic (PPC), which will account for 10 credits of teaching load.

The PPC falls under GSPP Clinical Services, a Colorado Behavioral Health Administration licensed Behavioral Health Entity that bills insurance (Medicaid/Colorado Access). The faculty member will also be required to contribute to GSPP Clinical Services’ onsite supervision coverage, which is shared among clinic-involved faculty and generally involves 1 day or evening per week of coverage.

Scholarship expectations, while minimal for this faculty line, include serving on doctoral paper committees as well as publications, presentations, research, and/or grant-related scholarship. Service responsibilities include meeting attendance, participating in PsyD admissions processes, participating in competency exams, providing academic advising, attending PsyD events, and serving on university or unit committees. In addition, GSPP requires all faculty and staff to exhibit excellent citizenship and pursue professional development to foster a model workplace.

This position reports to the Director of the PsyD Program. Faculty appointments are 10 months (September – June), but since the PsyD program operates year-round, some summer obligations, including clinical supervision, should be expected and are compensated separately.

As mentioned above, it is likely that one of the faculty hired from this posting will take on the administrative role of Director of the GSPP Internship Consortium. Based on the current faculty workload framework, this administrative role includes a 6 credit reduction to teaching load. For the 2026-2027 training year, the Consortium consists of 16 interns completing training at 6 sites. The Director is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and continuous improvement of the Internship Consortium. Key responsibilities include maintaining APA accreditation and ensuring compliance with APA and APPIC standards, overseeing site partnerships, managing the intern selection and training process, coordinating Friday seminars and co-leading one seminar.

Duties in these areas include, but are not limited to:

Teaching and Clinical Supervision

• Teaching, as a clinical-line faculty member, 27 credits at the graduate level (13.5 credits for half-time) with a focus on clinical supervision and clinical training.
• Provide onsite supervision coverage approximately 1 day or evening per week.
• Maintain high teaching standards informed by best practices in pedagogy and leveraging available technologies to improve the student experience
• Pursue relevant and needed professional development to complete these tasks

Scholarship

• Engage in scholarship including publications, presentations, research, and/or grant-related work.
• Serve on PsyD student doctoral paper committees

Service

• Exhibit good citizenship through collaboration and service on committees to support PsyD, GSPP, the University, community, and national and global efforts to improve the practice of psychology
• Participate in PsyD and unit-level meetings
• Participate in the PsyD admissions process
• Participate in PsyD competency exams
• Provide high-quality academic advising for PsyD students in accordance with GSPP, & DU protocol, along with state and federal legal and ethical guidelines
• Serve on university or unit committees.
• Uphold GSPPs commitment to inclusion through all professional activities
• Other duties as assigned

Administration (for the Internship Consortium Director only)

• Maintain APA accreditation for the Internship Consortium
• Ensure compliance with APA and APPIC standards
• Oversee intern selection, training, and evaluation
• Coordinate with sites on logistical and clinical matters, including in quarterly meetings, annual planning, and as-needed to address concerns
• Recruit and retain excellent intern training opportunities
• Manage the program administration, including contracts, website updates, data and reporting, and budget

• Ability to provide clinical supervision to trainees and a diverse range of supervising psychotherapists
• Relevant knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to inclusion, social justice, and access in education
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the capacity for outstanding teaching at the graduate level.
• Strong technology skills, including familiarity with MS Office suite, to be successful as a faculty member and leader
• Strong administrative skills, including project and process management
• Initiative and ability to work both independently and in a collaborative, collegial environment.
• Demonstrated ability to interact with diverse communities or evidence of a commitment to incorporate inclusive teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage broadly diverse student populations
• Ability and willingness to incorporate relevant, timely, and inclusive course material.
• Ability to effectively receive and incorporate feedback
• Ability to meet changing course and program needs

• A doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology or a related field and license eligible as a doctoral-level psychologist in Colorado within 3 months. Failure to obtain licensure within 3 months may result in termination.
• Experience with teaching, clinical supervision or trainees, research and scholarship, service, and/or relevant professional experience, commensurate with rank.

• Licensed in the State of Colorado as a doctoral-level psychologist
• Minimum 3 years of post-doctoral experience in the field of clinical psychology
• Minimum 1 year of clinical supervision or clinic management
• A demonstrated commitment to teaching, clinical service, research, and/or training appropriate to the missions of the PsyD program and GSPP
• Accomplished graduate-level teaching and mentorship that reflects a variety of instructional approaches and/or curricular perspectives to engage diverse populations and learning styles
• 3 years of experience in an agency or equivalent providing counseling/psychotherapy and assessment
• Experience providing or supervising clinical services to populations of interest to PsyD students
• Curriculum development experience
• Administrative experience, particularly in an APPIC training setting
• Experience tracking and reporting on APA accreditation standards

• Standard office environment.

The salary range for this position is $78,000 - $95,000 for a full-time position; $39,000 - $47,500 for a half-time position.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
