About the Role

The Senior Research Funding Officer is a key role supporting the University’s research investments through expert contract management, risk assessment, and strategic post-award administration of grants, contract research, and consultancy projects. Responsible for negotiating, managing, and ensuring compliance with complex research funding agreements, the role provides high-level advice to stakeholders, oversees contractual obligations and reporting across a diverse project portfolio, and liaises with funding bodies, government agencies, and industry partners. Working with significant autonomy, the position drives best-practice post-award processes, ensures timely delivery of milestones and compliance with governance requirements, and contributes to the University’s research success through effective funding management and operational excellence.

  • Under broad direction guide institutional decision-making on often complex post-award research initiatives.
  • Establishment and achievement of ongoing contractual obligations and client expectations.
  • Facilitation and timely risk assessment, negotiation, and execution of simple and complex research funding agreements, subcontracts, variations, and other related research contracts.
  • Manage effective and well-maintained networks internal to the University including Legal Services, People & Wellbeing, Finance, Procurement, Academic Units; and with external stakeholders spanning government, industry, and academic collaborators.
  • Ensure the accuracy of records including review of Research Administration System (RAS) entries to ensure accuracy of information.

­What we’re looking for:

  • Ability to provide research grant, project or contract management services, including high level administrative and operational support.
  • Experience building and maintaining productive professional networks with strong relationship management skills and the ability to negotiate effective outcomes with stakeholders across organisational streams and levels.
  • High level written and oral communication skills with a focus on attention to detail.
  • Capacity to act independently within established guidelines, displaying initiative and make sound judgements with a reasonable degree of autonomy.
  • Experience in designing and implementing operational improvements and with strong organisational skills in managing competing priorities in a complex working environment.

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $130,943 comprising base salary within the range of $101,821 to $111,917 plus 17% superannuation.
